TOPS News
Submitted By Terrie Azotea
At TOPS this past week our TOPS best loser was Heather and our KOPS
was Mickey. Kudos to you ladies and to those who were runners up. We
have two Miss Angels, Suzie and Joyce, you both are almost there.
We had a raffle for an Easter basket and our winner was Pat Smith.
Last week was royalty and our Best Loser of the month was Terrie.
Congrats to those who were runners up.We all know losing weight is a
very hard thing to do and then once you lose the weight it’s even
harder keeping it off.
With this past week being Easter and all that candy around the
house, I, for one, am glad that the holidays are over.
Some tips that were given were on portion control, how we were
emotional, if we were happy and eating healthy foods. The week
before they spoke on the health benefits of honey and cinnamon.
Hopefully we are on to better days weather wise and we can all get
outside and get walking
We are a non-profit support weight loss group and if anyone would
like to meet new faces or face the scales each week on your weight
loss journey, we meet on Tuesday nights at the Berakah on Fairview
Rd. in Pittsfield at 5:30 for weigh-in and at 6:30 for our meetings.
Any questions please call Janis White at 491-5532 or Clair Coll at
435-7535. Hope you all have a good week and see you all lighter next
week!

Letter
Dear taxpayers and voters of Pittsfield,
While it’s barely been a month since the election, it is already
clear to me that the selectmen’s and town administrator’s quest for
control and power have not abated. They fully intend to interfere
with the Planning Board, which is legally meant to function as an
autonomous committee. They fully intend to demean and disrespect
the character and work of honest and lawful town volunteers. They
fully intend to treat some hand-chosen citizens one way, and all
others a different way. They fully intend to make decisions that
have a negative impact on all taxpayers in this town. AND, they
fully intend to continue to hide under the guise of attorney-client
privilege.
Last Tuesday, the selectmen voted to have the town attorney review a
major subdivision application approved by the Planning Board due to
some undisclosed ‘anomalies’ and also voted to pay for some
($544.44) of the cost incurred by the applicant during the approval
process. The Planning Board had already voted that the applicant
had to pay these fees based on a thorough review of the case file.
In fact, the Planning Board reviewed the facts associated with this
application at several meetings. The applicant paid for their own
representative to attend these meetings. If the selectmen had
factual information to bring forth, why didn’t they do so through
their own selectman representative at those Planning Board meetings?
Even last Tuesday at their own meeting, the selectmen still offered
no evidence, had no discussion, voted UNANIMOUSLY to lawyer-up and
also voted UNANIMOUSLY to pay the applicant’s bill – all at the
expense of the taxpayer.
I believe the voters of Pittsfield have spoken out for transparency
not secrecy, for equality not favoritism, for lawfulness and facts
not hyperbole. Obviously the selectmen and town administrator have
not gotten the message – yet.
God Bless Our Troops,
Rachel Wood
Letter To The Editor
To the good citizens of Pittsfield,
I needed a month to collect my thoughts about this year’s School
District meeting.
I had attended the school’s celebratory diner a few days earlier and
heard the news of phase two funding of the NMEF grant the recently
awarded the NESSC Next Gen grant, recent revisions to the PMHS logic
model, an update of the newly drafted PES logic model, and other
noteworthy accomplishments of the past year.
I don’t know what’s happening to me, but I think I’m starting to
understand. It’s all about making school interesting, challenging,
and celebrating achievements. The Pittsfield school staff is making
this happen by involving the students on the school committee and
representation on the school board. The students get to help run the
show. It’s their education after all.
Good job to the staff of Pittsfield School District.
As far as the idea of burning pellets to heat the schools, the vote
indicated voters want to have gas and oil researched better. But we
gotta stop burning fossil fuels. How about getting an estimate for
solar panels? or geothermal?
Thanks to the school board for taking the heat this year.
