Dear Pittsfield Voters,
Thank you for electing Clayton Wood and Daren Nielsen to the
planning board, and thank you for your vote of confidence in the
path that the board has taken during the past four years.

Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday and Easter Services
This year as in past years, First Congregational Church, 24 Main
Street, Pittsfield, will hold its usual Palm Sunday Service at 10
a.m. Sunday, March 29. The worship service will remember the entry
of Jesus into Jerusalem with the distribution of palms. The service
will also feature special music by the Chancel Choir and JuBellation
Handbell Choir.
A special Maundy Thursday worship service including Holy Communion,
commemorating the “Last Supper” of Jesus, will be held Thursday,
April 2, at 7 p.m. Special music will be provided by the Chancel
Choir and JuBellation. The service will be preceded by a potluck
supper in the Vestry at 6 p.m.
On Easter Sunday, April 5, at 7 a.m., the customary Sunrise Service
will be held in the Sanctuary with breakfast immediately following
(about 8 a.m.) in the Vestry. The traditional Easter worship service
will commence at 10:00 a.m. and will include Holy Communion. Come
and worship at either service and join us for breakfast!

Beverly E. Moore
A Memorial Service for Beverly E Moore who died January 29th, will
be held Saturday March 21st at 11:00 AM in the 1st Congregational
Church of Pittsfield. The Rev. David Stasiak, Pastor will officiate.
An Urn Burial has been scheduled for Monday, April 20th at 11:00 AM
in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Clinton MA.

At TOPS this past week our KOPS best loser was Barbara and our TOPS
was Terrie. Kudos to those who were runners up and to those who had
a loss throughout the week.
We have two Miss Angels, Suzie and Joyce. Come on ladies, we know
you both can make it! We had Royality for the month with awards
handed out and flowers for being recognized for losing weight.
Congrats to Suzie and Claire and to our KOPS member, Peggy, for also
a loss. Congrats to all for having a good loss for the month.
We also talked about upcoming events and then some of our members
spoke about some tips that helped them lose weight for the month.
Some of their tips were: they stayed away from desserts, no soda, no
night snacking, eat regular meals instead of going all day without
food, and just getting outside with some snowshoeing, or just plan
walking if the roads are good.
As we all know losing weight is not easy and it’s a choice on what
we do. Do we live to eat or eat to live? I guess that is one of the
important questions to ask yourself every time you go to put
something into your mouth.
Well, I hope that everyone has a good week and we always welcome new
faces and help anyone who would like to lose some weight or stay on

Why should you come to the Scenic Theatre this weekend to see the
production of Dearly Beloved?
The Pittsfield Players have been in existence for 47 years, right
here in Pittsfield. We have owned the Scenic Theatre for almost 25
years, outright owned it, maintained it, shoveled its sidewalk,
vacuumed its floors, taken out its trash and cleaned its toilets,
staffed only by volunteers.
We stage around 5 shows per year and in the last three years have
brought in outside acts such as Tuckermans at 9, The Rockin’ Daddios
and The Bodacious Babes. Main stage shows take up to 3 months to
rehearse. We audition two nights, we cast our recruits and rehearse
three nights a week, one of the nights always being a Sunday, to
memorize lines, make movement flow on stage and, when necessary, go
over music.
On top of that we spend Saturdays, Sunday mornings, early AMs and
late PMs fashioning a set, finding props, painting, trying on
costumes, researching time periods, practicing accents and finding
time in our otherwise busy schedules to write publicity spots, trend
on facebook, design posters, come up with programs, marquees and
fundraising tactics. Right here in Pittsfield we have some amazing
theatre; theatre to make you laugh, make you cry, make you sing.
We recruit young ‘uns at 8 years of age and take on “newbies” who
first trod the boards at 38, 46, 62. We’ve remodeled, renovated,
stayed alive in a dwindling economy and we rely on your support.
With Players like The Suncook Valley Sun, The Globe, Kentek, Rustic
Crust, Pittsfield Weaving, Florence Freese, Richard Foss, EP
Sanderson Trust, Art Morse, Maye and Jim Hart and many others, we’ve
brought in new-to-us seating, we’ve built a backstage stairway,
gotten new lighting, preserved the art deco, flown Peter Pan and
brought magic into your backyard.
Why come to the Scenic Theatre this weekend? Because we need you and
you need us. Come to the Scenic to laugh, to reminisce , to take a
load off, to support an organization that has been a gem in
Pittsfield’s crown for 47 years and counting, we couldn’t do it
without you.
Update On The Floral Park Cemetery Fence Fund

Now that winter is almost over and spring is right around the
corner, it’s time to look ahead to Phase 2 of the Floral Park
Cemetery Fence Fund.
I have collected approximately $6,000 for Phase 2, but in order for
the next section to be completed, I need another $14,000. My plan
for the completion of Phase 2 was for Memorial Day 2015. I need
your help.
Thank you to Paul at Jitters for allowing me to keep the collection
box on his counter, and thank you to all who have donated to the
fence fund by dropping your change in the box. Donations continue
to trickle in but they have been somewhat hampered by the article
written by Mr. Pollard, Chairman of the Trustees of the Floral Park
Cemetery.
In Mr. Pollard’s letter to The SUN he noted that the cemetery was
running out of funds in order to continue operating and he has
approached the Selectmen to get funding to continue the upkeep at
Floral Park. I felt that I had made it very clear in past articles
that this fence project has nothing to do with the cemetery trustees
nor their lack of funds. This project is completely independent of
the Trustees and the Town of Pittsfield – this is a one-time, much
needed project which I had hoped would be completed over a four-year
period.
Please consider making a donation to this worthy project so that the
ugly chain link fence on High Street can be replaced with the
beautiful black fencing and granite posts.
I wish to thank all those individuals and organizations who have
been so generous with your donations, but your continued support is
needed. This is a project that the whole
community can help with in order to continue to beautify that
section of town. (The new Rustic Crust building is yet another
example of the community coming together to assist them in making it
possible to rebuild their facility). This would be a wonderful time
for families to donate in memory of a loved one.

VA Accelerates Deployment Of Nationwide Opioid Therapy Tool
Allows VA Providers to Review Pain Treatment Data in One Place to
Help Protect Patients

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is accelerating the
deployment of a state-of-the-art tool to help protect Veteran
patients using high doses of opioids or with medical risk factors
that put them at an increased risk of complications from opioid
medications.
The tool, referred to as the Opioid Therapy Risk Report, is being
made available now to all staff in the Veterans Health
Administration (VHA). Over the past week, VA’s Interim Under
Secretary for Health, Dr. Carolyn Clancy, has reached out to over
2,000 primary care providers in VHA clinics throughout the country
to promote the use of this novel tool. It includes information about
the dosages of narcotics and other sedative medications, significant
medical problems that could contribute to an adverse reaction and
monitoring data to aid in the review and management of complex
patients.
“All of American medicine is aiming to better understand how to
treat severe pain, and Veterans receiving care in the VA health care
system typically suffer from higher rates of chronic pain than the
general public,” said Dr. Clancy. “While opioid medications may be
appropriate in some cases of chronic pain, we are dedicated to using
them safely and providing effective pain care to our Veterans. It is
critical that we ensure system-wide implementation of the Opioid
Therapy Risk Report in the weeks ahead.”
The Opioid Therapy Risk Report allows VA providers to review all
pertinent clinical data related to pain treatment in one place,
providing a comprehensive Veteran-centered and more efficient level
of management not previously available to primary care providers.
VHA is actively deploying training aids to providers and facilities
now and over the next several weeks to familiarize them with how to
utilize this tool in their daily practice.
Overuse and abuse of prescription opioids is a significant public
health issue, particularly since patients in pain are at risk for
potential negative outcomes including unintended overdose, adverse
medical reactions, and mental health complications. VA established
the Opioid Safety Initiative (OSI) in 2012 to enhance safe and
effective pain care for Veterans. As a result, there are currently:
• 91,614 fewer patients receiving opioids;
• 29,281 fewer patients receiving opioids and benzodiazepines
together;
• 71,255 more patients on opioids that have had a urine drug screen
to help guide treatment decisions;
• 67,466 fewer patients on long-term opioid therapy
Letter To The Editor
I would like to express my sincere appreciation for all the
Pittsfield Voters who supported me in the hotly contested planning
board election last Tuesday.
I had the distinct pleasure of meeting with many of you in your
homes, on your doorsteps and in front of the Town Hall on Election
Day. The experience allowed me to meet some of the nicest people
that I would have never had the opportunity to meet otherwise.
Despite the intense competition, I completely enjoyed all the
camaraderie with the other candidates on Election Day. It was warm
and the sun shined, I shared my pizza with a cute little dog named
Spanky (although the other members of his “gang” stayed home), Dan
kept me busy with his “stone man” stories during the slow times, and
although I teased Larry that I would turn his signs around backwards
when he left for lunch, I never did.
And finally, a special thanks to Hollis who campaigned with us all
day while providing us with food and refreshments.
In this election, the voters sent a clear message that all property
owners, both developer applicants and abutters, must be treated and
respected equally and I certainly agree. Once again, thank you for
your support and a rewarding experience, and I will do my best to
represent you on the board.

Center. There is no charge to play and all experience levels are
welcome. You can meet new people with similar interests and make new
friends in your community. The club meets every Wednesday from 9:30

If you are an individual that is sixty or over or disabled and
resides in the Barnstead, Pittsfield, and Epsom area then our Rural
Transportation System (RTS) is for you. Whether or not it is going
grocery shopping, the bank, medical appointments, hair appointments
or any other errands the bus may serve your needs! The service is
managed through the Pittsfield Area Senior Center by the
Belknap-Merrimack Community Action Program and runs Tuesday-Friday
from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and travels to Concord. The cost is
$1.00 each way and we will come to your home and pick you up. If
interested please call the center at 435-8482 for additional
information.
Just One Group
There is a new group forming which will meet at the Pittsfield First
Congregational Church. Our first meeting will be Saturday, March 28,
from 10 AM-2 PM. We will seek to meet the needs of our community one
project at a time.
Our first project will be handwarmers for the Payson Cancer Center.

To Pittsfield voters,
What a beautiful day for voters to come out to vote. A heartfelt
thank you to those who came out to show their support. I especially
appreciated every voter who took that extra minute to write my name
in. I realize running a write-in campaign can be challenging, so for
that, thank you.
I’m excited and proud to be on the school board and look forward to
working with the other members and school staff.
Also, big thanks to Laurie Houle, for spending several hours on your
day off, holding up my sign and introducing me to some voters.

To the good citizens of Pittsfield,
Voting Day was yesterday. It took a day to collect my thoughts.
I did not make it on the zoning board. I’m not really too
disappointed due to the fact Paul Metcalf is still on board. I was
going to try to vote along his way, which is to favor an applicant
to the ZBA over strict laws. And I like the fact Pat Heffernan is
still on the board. He also tries to help applicants and encourages
small business start-ups in Pittsfield. So I’m good.
Also, a great job getting elected goes to Daren Nielsen and Clayton
Wood, for handily winning the two seats on the planning board.
Undoubtedly, Belinda Nielsen and Jim Pritchard worked hard all day
to make this happen.
So, now we have two new selectmen, Nicholas Hayes and Denis
Beaudoin. It’s good to have some new blood, but I am going to miss
Linda Small and Larry Konopka who have served Pittsfield with
distinction.
I have to say, I really enjoyed Candidates Night put on by the
Chamber of Commerce and Pittsfield Listens. With the student
involvement and no shortage of qualified candidates, and an exchange
of names and ideas from all involved was great.

Pittsfield School District Student Services: Building Partnerships
With Parents
Parents of students with special needs – have you ever wanted to
have a more positive relationship with the school so your child can
succeed? Do you want to gain a better understanding of special
education procedures and services, or have questions about special
education? The Pittsfield School District Department of Student
Services is interested in building a partnership with parents to
improve supports for students with special needs.
A Parent Focus Group meeting will be held on Thursday, March 26,
2015 from 6:00-7:30 PM at the Pittsfield Middle High School.
New Hampshire Connections will facilitate a parent discussion in
order to give feedback to the district to improve the parent-school
partnership. Come prepared to participate!
Child care is available and light refreshments will be served.
