Meet Our Members
Next up
in Pittsfield Fire Department’s “Meet Our Members” series is FF/EMT
Kevin Marquis. Kevin joined the department in 2007 and served as an
on-call member until his family relocated to Bow last year. However,
we are fortunate that Kevin continues to assist us by filling per
diem EMS shifts.
Q: How did you become interested in public safety?
A: I’ve always had an unexplainable drive to help those in need. I
find working within untenable conditions and accomplishing what most
people wouldn’t do, rewarding.
Q: What was one of the best trainings you attended?
A: For me, the best training I participated in was my most recent
trip to the flashover container at the NH Fire Academy.
Q: Now that you live in Bow are you a member of the Bow Fire
Department?
A: I am a member of Bow Fire Department, I think it has been almost
a year now. Time sure does fly. I’m working as a call
Firefighter/EMT.
Q: You have two sons – mason, age 8 and carter, age 5. Would you
encourage them to become a firefighter/EMT?
A: I certainly would encourage them to – however, it is more
important that they choose a career that they find satisfying and
rewarding.
Youth Leadership/Youth Voice
Participants gather at the Youth Leadership/Youth Voice
Day
held at Merrimack High School on March 29.
Youth Leadership/Youth Voice participants shared their
learning and desire to stay connected with a “Web of Sharing”
created at Merrimack High School on March 29.
An exciting day of youth leadership activities was led by UNH
Cooperative Extension’s Youth and Family team, Merrimack County 4-H
Junior Leaders and the Pittsfield Youth Workshop at the Youth
Leadership/Youth Voice event held on Saturday, March 29 at Merrimack
Valley High School in Penacook.
The event brought together nearly 60 middle and high school students
and more than 20 adult mentors from schools, afterschool programs,
and 4-H groups in a variety of dynamic hands-on activities designed
to build communication, facilitation and advocacy skills. Youth
participants had opportunities to mix-it-up as they shared and
learned with a diversity of others from Merrimack, Hillsborough and
Sullivan counties.
All participants were able to engage in fun, self-directed learning
activities, such as “Make a Meaningful Mural,” “Write an Important
Letter to Important People,” and “What Does Community Service Mean
to Me?” Nearly half the youth chose to create a “What We Care About”
video, soon to be shared by UNH Cooperative Extension.
The Youth Leadership/Youth Voice day opened and
closed with sincere sharing as a community of excited and engaged
learners. Funding for this event was provided by a grant from The
UNH Foundation. For more information about this day and related
youth leadership activities contact Debbie Cheever at
[email protected] or Rick Alleva at

UNH Cooperative Extension puts trusted information and practical
know-how in the hands of citizens and businesses in New Hampshire.
Extension is at work in every New Hampshire county, making the
state’s critical industries stronger; developing vibrant communities
and municipal leaders; fostering healthy families and an informed
and engaged citizenry, and keeping the state’s natural resources
healthy and productive.

TOPS News
Submitted By Terrie Azotea
Well, Spring has sprung, finally!! At Tops this past week our Kops
Best Loser of the week was Pat and our Tops best loser was April and
Kudos to those who were runner ups.
Our Miss Angels are Suzie and Irene. Come on ladies, I know that you
both can make it.
Incentive awards were handed out for having a four week weight loss
and for other loses. It always makes you feel good when you know
that you are on the right track.
Our program this past week was on what you like about yourself and
why you come to Tops? Sometimes we don’t like ourselves and we are
our own worst critics; and I know I tend to put myself down and we
should not do that. Each member received a piece of paper with a
sentence that was of encouragement or that might be about
themselves.
I go to Tops because of the support. There is encouragement, a
smiling face, it’s right in my home town, it’s nice to go for a
walk, and get a wave or a toot of the horn from a tops member.
One of the most important part of Tops is walking in and facing
those scales. We all know we wear our lightest clothes and hope that
when we step on that scale, it shows a loss or a stay the same and
know that no matter what, we are all there for the same reason.
If anyone would like to join us, we meet on a Tuesday night at the
Berakah at 5:30 for weigh-in and at 6:30 for our meeting.
We welcome new faces anytime. If anyone has any questions, please
call Janis White at 603-491-5532 or Claire Coll at 603-435-7271.
“What defines us is how well we rise after falling.” Hope everyone
has a good week, and see you all lighter next week!
