Inspired Minds Want Others to Know
PSNH
Celebrates the Power of Volunteerism
Many companies are after the best and most
capable employees, but Public Service of New Hampshire (PSNH)
desires an additional quality: volunteerism. The company recently
revamped its long-running volunteer program - now called The
Inspiration Awards - to recognize the ways in which employees'
charitable actions inspire others to get involved in their own
communities.
"The Inspiration Awards are a reflection of our
changing workforce, and of our efforts to preserve the very best
aspects of PSNH's culture for future generations," said Gary Long,
PSNH president and chief operating officer. "I'm proud to work with
a group of people for whom community-involvement is second nature."
The recipients of PSNH's inaugural Inspiration
Awards include:
Donna Keeley of Pittsfield, for the Local
Leadership Award. In 2007, Keeley was part of a Rotary mission to
the town of Danli, Honduras to install water filters in a remote
village that has no electricity or water system. In the summer
months, she can be seen around Pittsfield watering the town flowers
from big water barrels in the back of her husband's truck.
Each of the award recipients and teams received a
$300 donation to the charity of their choice. Each year, hundreds of
PSNH employees lend their time and energy to organizations across
the state. The company hopes that the Inspiration Awards and its
recipients will continue to inspire others to become more involved
in the communities in which they work and live.

Select Board's Desk
By Larry
Konopka
During the May 27, 2008, meeting of the
Pittsfield Selectmen a presentation was given by owners and agents
of the American Energy Independence Company (AMENICO), LLC. The firm
presented plans to acquire the Suncook Tannery property, improve the
appearance of the building and adjacent grounds while starting an
alternative energy production business.
AMENICO proposes to move its business office to
the Tannery building, provide space to convert diesel engines that
will be powered with recycled vegetable oil, install tanks for raw
and finished product storage and install filtering equipment to
convert the used vegetable oil into a clean fuel product.
AMENICO has partnered with a local site
construction firm, J. Parker and Daughters, to demonstrate that the
recycled oil can successfully and economically fuel common equipment
using diesel engines.
The Board of Selectmen was pleased to learn of
AMENICO's plans that will feature increased employment and
commercial investment in downtown Pittsfield. The Selectmen will
work closely with the firm to ensure that a smooth and rapid
start-up occurs. The Board is also pleased the firm chose Pittsfield
to begin the state of the art recycling business that is
environmentally friendly and that provides an affordable energy
alternative.
The Selectmen are hopeful this good news will be
followed by more of the same as the regional business leaders
discover that Pittsfield is a "business friendly" community!
