Letter

Dear Pittsfield Voters:

The Pittsfield Planning Board had good years from 2012 through 2014.  Under  Chair Clayton Wood’s leadership and a supporting majority, the board followed the law.  The board proposed and the town adopted zoning laws that protect property owners and empower voters.  The board worked on procedural rules and subdivision regulations to protect property owners and taxpayers.

But since last November 6, the board has been utterly lawless. Now, a new, three-member majority ignores state laws applicable to applicants and even board members.  The new majority ignores public safety in subdivision applications.  Two planning board members or alternates (Larry Konopka and Gerard LeDuc) serve on the board of selectmen (thus violating RSA 673:7, I, and RSA 673:6, IV).  Selectman Konopka tried to remove a board officer (me) from the recording-secretary office (thus violating RSA 673:9, I).  Selectman Konopka and selectmen’s employees storm out of planning board meetings when the two-member minority cites law.

November 6 was, coincidentally, when Selectman Konopka came on board.  He was, coincidentally, chairing the planning board 10 years ago when the board did similar things.

The new planning board majority--Larry Konopka, Bill Miskoe, and Pat Heffernan--is preparing several zoning proposals that I find oppressive and insidious.  The fair-minded board that brought last year’s proposals is NOT bringing these new ones.  These new proposals are like the ones that the board proposed in 2011 and that the town wisely rejected.  Space here does not permit me to be specific, but I encourage voters to call or e-mail me to ask for details.  And please watch the planning board carefully; it is not the same law-abiding board that you have known in recent years.

Thank you,

Jim Pritchard

Concord Hospital Spirit Of Giving Campaign – Pajamas Needed For Pediatric Patients

This holiday season, consider adding an additional gift to your gift list for young pediatric, Emergency Department or Family Health Center patients at Concord Hospital.  Often-times a young patient’s clothing is rendered unwearable upon their arrival at Concord Hospital. Your gift of new pajamas (all seasons), socks and undergarments are needed to ensure that every child is discharged with proper clothing.

Giving trees and clothing gift receptacle bins are located in both Concord Hospital lobbies. If your group or organization would like to get involved with the Spirit of Giving campaign, contact Concord Hospital Trust at 227-7162 or [email protected]

Please know how much it is appreciated and it will somehow help to make the coming days easier.

Letter To The Editor

It’s early morning, mid-December. I just finished loading a load of stone into my good friend George’s pickup truck. He is on his way to Concord and has been dropping the stone on our next community job.

The reason we picked the Northwood Narrows wall is every time I rode by the old wall, my brother, Mark, had to listen to me complain that the wall just didn’t look as good as it should, given the historic beauty of the Narrows. Anyway, I told him he could pick the next community project, if he would help me on this one.

We have been working together for the last couple of years on the old Watson-Locke Cemetery at Rollin Ray’s above Jenness Pond on Rt. 107. My brother just about single-handedly finished the remaining rebuilding this Fall. He was able to clean up before the snow.

I only know a handful of people who can build a wall to my satisfaction. Mark is probably the best of them. He can cut almost any stone, except junk, by hand with just a few tools. I cannot do that. I need by rock saw.

I’m digging he stone out of the ground with my bar. I then use a fiberglass wheelbarrow top that my brother fashioned a cable to so I could pull it. I can get out about 150 lbs. at a time. This is how I started almost 30 years ago. My wife says I’m going backwards. But as long as I’m building a wall, I’m going forward.

One of the things I learned is that art builds community. It makes us a part of that community.

What a life.

Dan Schroth Piermarocchi
