Pittsfield, NH 03263
The New Hampshire
Legislative Commission to Study Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
(PTSD) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) is attempting to collect
information from all veterans as well as agencies that serve
veterans. They have implemented a survey entitled “SHARE – Survey
Helping to Advance Recovery Efforts.”
With the preliminary
information Commission members have gathered, a draft series of
veterans population and resource maps have been put together to
provide critical data that can be utilized by military, civilian,
and legislative leadership to make knowledgeable and well-informed
decisions about the resources wanted by, and necessary to serve, NH
veterans and their family members.
The commission is asking for
the help of all NH veterans and their family members to complete a
quick 11 question survey. The survey is fully confidential and will
assist in the efforts to complete these informational maps.
Commission members look forward to finalizing the “veterans map
series” with the help of New Hampshire’s veteran population.
Veterans and family members completing the survey are provided with
a unique opportunity to have valuable input into changes to current
services and assistance available, as well as future endeavors
implemented on behalf of veterans.
The survey can be completed
on-line at
www.nh-veteran.com or by visiting us on Facebook at NH
Legislative Commission on PTSD &TBI (SB 102).

Dorcas Guild
The Dorcas Guild
met the evening of September 11th with 18 in attendance. Nella
Hobson, president, opened with a welcome to all. We were pleased to
welcome new young people.
Devotions were given by Freda Jones,
who always has a great selection of readings. These were from an old
book of her mother’s, Moments of Awareness, and included, “A Lovely
Day,” “Look Up and Live,” “One Day at a Time,” “The Pattern of
Life,” and “Thoughts in a Garden.” All joined in a moment of silence
for the anniversary of 9/11 followed by the Lord’s Prayer.
Secretary Joan Riel gave her secretary’s report of the June meeting,
shared correspondence and circulated many cards to be signed and
mailed. Treasurer Reny Boyd gave her financial report.
The food
basket was brought in by Carolyn Davis and was taken by Elaine
Coffey. Kathy Bergeron will get it in October. The apron was brought
in by Evelyn Richard, was taken by Reny, who will empty it and pass
it on to Joan Riel. The mystery package from Peggy Jacobs was won by
Reny.
It was announced that the purple dossal hanging has been
completed and stored, thanks to Kathy Bergeron. Also announced was
the fact that CPR/AED training has been completed with seven people
certified and a dedication plaque has been mounted on the AED case
by the Guild, who purchased the AED.
The annual service project
was put on hold until next month when a decision will be made. The
Christmas Fair to be held November 17 with Nancy Fogg and Mary Jo
Powelson as co-chairs, was discussed – solicitation will be done at
the October meeting. The Craft Fair will be held December 1, with
Joan Riel and Nella Hobson, co-chairwomen.
Refreshments were
served at the close of the meeting by Freda Jones and Audrey Moore.
A pound auction was held and items were brought for the food pantry.
The next meeting will be held October 9th with Nancy Fogg and
Carolyn Davis as co-hostesses. Refreshments will include “Chocolate
Night.” A highlight of our meeting will be a visit from missionary
Mary Poarch, who is with New Tribes Mission, one of the Dorcas
Guild’s mission projects each year. Mary grew up in Center Barnstead
and graduated from Pittsfield High School.
