Something New At The Clothes Closet Submitted By Beverly and Rene
Drolet
When you walk down Carroll Street you will see a “new look” to the
Clothes Closet. We are sporting a colorful awning that not only
enhances the side of the building but gives some protection from
raindrops and sun. This has long been a dream of the volunteers.
Several years ago June Valentyn with the help of volunteers enlarged
the shop, providing much needed space as well as light with the
large window that adorns the Carroll Street side. An amazing amount
of labor went into the project of which we became the recipients
when we took over management and we are ever so grateful for their
endeavors. Since then the staff has continued to make interior
changes to provide a pleasant and professional shopping atmosphere.
The Clothes Closet has done well this year. People of the area have
generously supported us with donations and purchases so we, in turn,
have been able to be generous to others. Monetary and clothing
contributions have been made to Fireman’s Secret Santa, The Food
Pantry, The Community Center, Boy and Girl Scouts, PYW,
Beautification and Flower Committees, School Scholarship, the
homeless and individual needs. We felt it was timely to do something
for the shop itself.
We truly appreciate Concord Awning And
Canvas of Bow who installed our beautiful awning and also gave us a
generous discount because of our nonprofit work for the town. We
recommend considering them if you are planning to have an awning
installed for pleasure or business.
And, visit us...... We are
not hard to miss!
This year’s spring cleanup and planting at the BCEP was a success
once again. We had many 4H volunteers to help and even the rain held
out. Thank you to all the 4H leaders that came out to help: Peter
and Sue Elliott, Jen and Matt Goodwin, Pauline Wheeler and Pam
Clattenburg as well as the parents who also helped and all the 4H
kids who worked so hard: Jordan Pinto, Elizabeth and Cassie Boyd,
Derek and Austin Ladd, Trinity Bond, Nate Huse, Colby Wheeler, Chris
Goodwin, Melody Sylvester, Holly and Hana Testerman. Thank you to
all the members who also donated flowers. Thank you to Gordon and
Nancy Wheeler for donating the bark mulch again this year as they
have for many years. And thank you to the kind folks at the BCEP for
staying late with us and making the weeds disappear. We are planning
the fall clean up. Watch the 4H newsletters for the date and time.
Thank You
We would like to thank everyone for the amazing
turn out at Shane’s Memorial Service. He certainly was loved and
cherished by many.
Thank you for sending your thoughts and
prayers, cards, phone calls, facebook comments and flowers during
our difficult time.
He will be missed so much. Shane will remain
forever in our hearts.
We love you, Shane, but you already knew
that.

Letter
Dear Citizens of
Pittsfield: Shame on Donald Morse to put such hateful comments
regarding ACO Taylor in the paper. If you were responsible
enough to register your dogs on time, you would have never seen a
notice to register your dogs.
ACO Taylor has worked in
Pittsfield for almost nine years. How come we haven’t seen any
letters on the wonderful things she has done for the town? Just one
unhappy citizen who has to pay a fine for being irresponsible?
Too bad, so sad, Mr. Morse. If something happens to your pet or goes
missing who are you going to call? Animal Control.
I know what
she has done for Pittsfield in nine years...the town doesn’t deserve
to have her with her training and qualifications. She should move on
to bigger and better things (yet, she stays because she loves the
animals and people in Pittsfield ).
Respectfully, Robert

TOPS News Submitted By Terrie Azotea
Well now that the whole week of the Fourth of July holiday is over,
we need to get back on track and start keeping a food chart and
watching what we are putting in our mouths. I don’t know about all
of you, but I have been eating a little bit to much at the cookouts
and saying to myself “well, I will do better next week.”
At TOPS
we are starting a new contest and it should help us a lot. We will
be having two different teams “The Green Beans” verses “The Peaches”
which sounds quite interesting. We just ended one contest and the
member who won went home with some money in her pocket. Kudos to
her.
We have been busy trying to get ready for our yard sale on
July 21, the day of Old Home Day. We will be selling raffle tickets
until 12:30 that day, so if you are interested in our BBQ Raffle,
come see us on Tilton Hill in Pittsfield. We will be there that day.
We are still doing our walking program on the second Tuesday of the
month.
If anyone is interested in seeing what we are all about,
come join us on Tuesday nights. We meet at the St. Stephen’s Church
on Main Street in Pittsfield at 5:30 for weigh-in and at 6:30 for
our meeting.
Any questions please call Laurel Tiede at 269-8721
or Pat Smith at 435-5333.
Give a dream a make over. Believe!
We would love to see some new faces and anyone is welcome. Hope
everyone has a great week and see you lighter next week!

Tribute To Larry Blackey
Twenty-five years ago today I married a wonderful, loving guy. His
name was Larry. During those years we had our ups and downs like any
other marriage. We had five children between us; Brent, Christopher,
Dawn, Kelly and Amy; seven grandchildren, Brett, Timmy, Madison,
Amelia, Joseph, Emma and Dawn.
Larry worked very hard every day
to provide for his family. Whether he was sick or not, off to work
he went. We did not have a lot, but we had our love and our family,
and that meant more to us than money; that was our richer or poorer.
Then one day Larry got MRSA. Three and a half years of battling
with his sickness was made easier by the help of our children.
Christopher came over to spend time with his dad so mom could get
out for a while. Kelly helped with his showers, getting him in and
out of his bed to his wheelchair, and cooking his meals, since dear
old mother was not a cook. Amy did the same as Kelly except for
cooking. Todd, our son-in-law was also a big help. He made sure the
outside was always done; the grass mowed, the snow cleared so when
Larry had to go outside, it was possible. When we had cookouts, Todd
did the cooking.
The grandchildren spending time with their
grandpa made his day and night. He loved them very much. When they
first got up for the day Madison, Amelia and Emma would come into
our room to say “Good Morning Grandpa/Papa.” They also said to their
Grammie “We Love You Both” and gave us hugs and kisses. That was
very special to us and they did the same before they went to bed.
Joseph, when he came down also told his Papa and Grammie that he
loved us and gave us hugs and kisses. Also, Amy would bring Dawn
into our room and have Larry hold his youngest granddaughter, which
brought smiles to his face. He sure loved his grandchildren. So that
was our “in sickness and in health.” Then the nightmare came.
Larry became very ill and off to the hospital we went. He spent 19
days in ICU. He was put on a ventilator. He could not fight it
anymore. After three and a half years of putting up the fight, there
was nothing more the doctors could do for him.
I got his family
together for a meeting, to see what was best for Larry. It was not
about what we wanted, it was all about my wonderful loving husband,
the children’s dad, the grandchildren’s grandpa. I asked his
brothers Ralph, Billy, Butch, David, Sammy and his sister Kathy to
help me decide what to do before telling the doctors what our plans
were. I asked my family Linda, Barbara, Arthur, Joanne, Ellen, Janet
and Joyce for their input. I asked him what he wanted to do even
though he could not talk because he was on the machine. He nodded
his head when I asked him if he wanted to be with his son Brent and
his daughter Dawn, who had passed before him, and his mom and dad.
He nodded his head yes. I told him if that’s what he really wanted
to do, I would tell the doctors to take him off the machine and let
nature take its course. He told his children the same thing as he
told me.
It was the hardest thing we had to do in our life, but
we felt it was about him not us. I got on the phone and told
everyone if they wanted to say their good-byes to come over to the
hospital ICU to see him. That was our “death do us part.”
Even
though he is not here, there is not a day that goes by that I don’t
miss him, or love him, or think about him. So in closing, I would
love to say “Happy 25th Anniversary, Dear Larry. I love and
miss you a great deal.
Love always, Your Loving Wife Nancy
