Letter

The Pittsfield Youth Workshop (PYW) would like to thank everyone who came out to support us at the 1st Annual Cinco de Mayo Karaoke Fundraiser. The evening was such a great success that we plan on continuing this as an annual event. With your help, we were able to raise a little over $3,200 for youth programming at PYW!

Special thanks to Dell-Lea Country Club for use of the hall, DJ Mark Minasalli for playing some great music, and of course extra gratitude goes to our corporate sponsors for the evening – Vintage Hill Assisted Living, Citizens Bank, Concord Orthopaedics, Joe Darrah Enterprises, Northeast Delta Dental, Globe Manufacturing, Graylag Cabins, Konopka Floor Sanding, Leap Year Marketing, The Mellen Company, Dominick’s Pizza Pasta and Things, Direct Flow Plumbing and Heating, and The Paige Agency. We wouldn’t have been as successful without support from these local businesses.

If you are interested in helping PYW plan fundraising events like this in the future please contact Zach or Paula at 435-8272.

Dorcas Guild

May 2012

The Dorcas Guild of the First Congregational Church of Pittsfield met May 8th in the church vestry with 11 members attending. Nella Hobson opened the meeting and Mary Jo Powelson led the devotions including scripture and a commentary by Billy Graham.

The secretary gave her report of the previous meeting, read correspondence and circulated several cards for signing, two for graduating high school seniors. The treasurer gave her financial statement.

Elsie brought the food basket, which went to Carolyn Davis. In September it will go to Elaine, who will bring it in October. Nancy Fogg brought the apron, which will go to Evelyn Richard, who will turn it in to Reny Boyd until the fall. The mystery package, brought in by Nancy Fogg, was won by Peggy Jacobs, who will bring it in September.

The ongoing service project was mentioned and continues to collect household items for the needy. It was announced the defibrillator has arrived and will be installed on May 9th. The instructions and practice for use will be given by the Pittsfield Fire Department.

A donation was made to cover the remaining costs to send two representatives to the National Conference in June. It was voted to purchase material for a new purple curtain which hangs in front of the organ during the Lenten season. Final plans were made for the June banquet and orders taken for meal choices. Children’s Day was discussed and the Dorcas Guild will help the Christian Education Committee with setting up and serving the Pot Luck Dinner on May 20th. The Guild will also help supply and serve refreshments at intermission for the Patriotic Concert on June 8th.

Corine Miller and Mary Jo Powelson served tasty refreshments including luscious fresh fruit. Following refreshments, the group enjoyed flower arranging with members using a great array of fresh flowers to fill vases each person had brought in.

The next meeting will be June 12th – the banquet at Jitters. No more meetings until September 11.
