What’s Happening At PYW?”
By Paula Driscoll, Program
Director
The Pittsfield Youth Workshop is
currently finalizing the 2010 summer
schedule. We are planning a summer
filled with fun and exciting trips:
Hilltop Fun Center, Polar Caves, Canobie
Lake Park, Kayaking, a Fisher Cats and
Red Sox game, Water Country, a cruise to
the Isles of Shoals and eight weeks of
out door rock climbing just to name a
few. We will also be continuing a Wise
Guys boys group, a Full of Ourselves
girls group, and going on several biking
trips.
PYW’s drop-in center will be open
every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from
2-6 PM, unless otherwise noted, during
the summer. On some Friday afternoons,
PYW will hold special activities,
including Boys Only and Girls Only
afternoons.
On Tuesday, June 8th, PYW will be
holding an Open House from 4:00 to 6:00
PM for new youth and parents to check
out the Drop-In Center, and for everyone
to sign up for summer trips and/or
activities. Although this will not be
the only time to sign up, we are
suggesting that everyone who is
interested in the summer programs to
stop by. Some trips fill-up fast! PYW
trips and activities are open to youth
in grades six and up (that means youth
who just finished 5th grade), from
Pittsfield and the surrounding towns.
This will be a great time to check out
the Mural if you haven’t had a chance.
There are a lot of great opportunities
this summer and we can’t wait to get
started.
Please feel free to contact Paula
Driscoll or Zach Powers with any
questions or to make a donation at

Leo R. Bernier Announces Candidacy
Leo R. Bernier, of 106 Cross Brook Road,
Loudon, NH, is seeking a second term as
your County Commissioner. Leo R.
Bernier, 58, is the current County
Commissioner and former Merrimack County
Treasurer. Commissioner Bernier is a
native of New Hampshire, a graduate of
the University of New Hampshire and was
the long term City Clerk for the City of
Manchester. During his career in the
City Clerk’s Office, he undertook
numerous reforms to improve the
efficiency, expand consumer protection
and facilitate public information. He is
active with the Loudon Lions Club,
Salvation Army, Board Director of the
Members First Credit Union and an active
volunteer for the Palace Theatre.
Commissioner Bernier is a 7 year
resident and homeowner in Loudon where
he resides with is wife, Virginia
Lamberton Bernier.
In announcing his
candidacy, Bernier, a Democrat, said:
“It has been an honor to serve the
people of Merrimack County as their
Commissioner. As I promised during my
last campaign, I would not vote for any
tax increase. I kept that promise. I
voted NO for a tax increase - by doing
so, there was not any adverse affect on
county services. We are currently
reviewing what other use(s) the old
house of corrections could provide at
minimal cost. As Commissioner, I
voted to hire professional medical
technicians to address spiraling costs
of health care for the prisoners. We are
also looking at utilizing the old farm
to grow vegetables for the nursing home
and jail to cut costs there as well.
Recently, we received a grant to install
solar energy in the house of
corrections. We continue to look for new
and creative ideas to improve services
while at the same time reducing costs to
the taxpayers.
Commissioner Bernier
would appreciate your vote and thanks
you for your consideration.”
Letter
We want to commend Mr. Donald
Fife, caretaker of the Floral Park
Cemetery, for doing such a good job of
making the cemetery look so nice in
Pittsfield.
When we go to the
cemetery, we see how well kept up it
always is done by him.
Too bad
though that he has to put up with those
awful fireworks that the town puts in
the cemetery every summer. Such a shame.
Keep up the good work, Mr. Fife. Most of
us appreciate it.
