FBLA 2014 Fall Activities
CBNA
FBLA Members Cara La Plante, Alandra Beaver, Meghan Percy, Brittany
Guillemette, Daphne Jordan and Katherine Hyland help hand out breast
cancer awareness materials at CBNA’s “Pink-Out” day.
The
Coe-Brown Northwood Academy chapter of Future Business Leaders of
America (FBLA) has been extremely busy during the first part of the
school year. Members Nicole Beaupre, Meghan Percy, Andrew Shultz,
Alex Yonchak, Brittany Guillemette, and Daphne Jordan, along with
advisor Dr. JoAnn Zylak, attended the annual FBLA Fall Leadership
Workshop on Thursday, October 9 at Southern NH University.
These
six members got a chance to meet the State Officer team, had a
workshop by an inspirational speaker on “It’s Up to You!” and
attended workshops on Team Building/Leadership Training and on Law
Enforcement/ Leadership in the community. The chapter participated
in Breast Cancer Awareness on October 22 at CBNA—wearing all pink,
giving out pink ribbons, and sharing breast cancer statistics
(awareness) through announcements during the week.
Members
have already been taught to juggle by faculty member Greg Samuel to
learn the concept of juggling life activities at an FBLA workshop
here at CBNA, and are participating in the LifeSmarts competition
online. In the future, the chapter will be Helping Veterans through
awareness on Veteran’s Day, by walking in the Veteran’s Day Parade
in Manchester, and by volunteering to help serve at a veteran’s
breakfast in Manchester.
CBNA
FBLA also participates in the Multiple Sclerosis Walk and Awareness
every April in Manchester and collects throughout the year for the
MS Society and the March of Dimes to help find cures, and will have
guest speakers at the FBLA Induction Ceremony on Nov. 10 to get more
information about these debilitating conditions.
FBLA
members are also collecting for Children’s Hospital at Dartmouth,
and have already donated all their “tip” money earned by working at
the Farmer’s Market Booth at Deerfield Fair and will continue
collecting for CHaD until March of next year to help children in
need. Members have made a children’s piggy bank which is available
for donations at CBNA. In addition, members are involved with
Diabetes awareness activities and hope to have a Virtual Business
Challenge going throughout this year.
More
guest speakers and conferences as well as a spring competition in
various business, computer, math, and economic areas are planned.
The
Harlem Rockets Comedy Basketball Team Is Coming To CBNA
Members
of the Harlem Rockets Showtime Basketball will be coming to
Coe-Brown on Friday, November 21, 2014 to benefit CBNA Hoop.
Coe-Brown Northwood Academy will be hosting some very special guests
on Friday, November 21, 2014 at 7 pm at the Smith Hall gym on the
CBNA Campus. The Harlem Rockets, a talented group of basketball
entertainers who combine incredible show time basketball skills and
family-friendly comedy, will face the CBNA Faculty All-Stars in a
game benefiting the CBNA Basketball Program.
Having
played over 2500 games in 16 years without a single defeat, the
Harlem Rockets offer something for everyone to enjoy. Sports
enthusiasts will be intrigued by the athleticism and size of the
Rockets. Basketball aficionados will be dazzled by the
ball-handling wizardry of Clarence “Mugsy” Leggett. Mugsy is one of
the world’s extraordinary dribblers and a former Harlem
Globetrotter, satiated by the game of Devon “The People’s Choice”
Curry and left awestruck by high-flying dunks of Cliff “Jet Blue”
Malone, who was featured in the Nike commercial released on Super
Bowl Day. Since this is comedy basketball, the Harlem Rockets
present to you the All Time Funny Man and one of Show Basketball’s
Greats....... James “Speedy “Williams, who was featured in the
movie, “Above The Rim” starring Tupac Shakur and Duane Martin.
Speedy was also one of the “Original Nike Free-Style Ballers in the
Nike Commercial, he performed live at the MTV Music Awards while Jay
Z did his thing, and is better known as The “Crowned Prince of
Laughs”. The Harlem Rockets incorporate the audience, especially
children, into the show and are always available to meet the fans
and give autographs at halftime and after the game.
In this
special event to raise money for the Coe-Brown Northwood Academy
boys and girls basketball programs, the CBNA Faculty All-Star “Dream
Team” has graciously agreed to face the Harlem Rockets.
Advance
tickets for what promises to be a fun-filled evening for the
community are $8 for students and seniors and $10 for adults and are
available from basketball team members or at the CBNA Main Office.
Tickets will also be available at the door the night of the game at
a cost of $10 for students and seniors and $12 for adults. Get your
tickets early. This is a special event you don’t want to miss.

Announces Results Of
“Trick
Or Treat So Kids Can Eat” Food Drive
The
Educational Theatre Association (EdTA) and its student honorary
organization, the International Thespian Society, are pleased to
announce the results of Coe- Brown Northwood Academy’s participation
in the International Thespian Society’s Trick or Treat So Kids Can
Eat program, a national community service initiative for ITS-member
schools to help communities by collecting food for local charities
and food banks. On October 30 and 31, CBNA Thespian Troupe #5976
collected 1665 pounds of canned food and dry goods which were
donated to the Northwood Food Pantry. Senior Hannah Grady chaired
the collection drive as her senior project and 40 CBNA students
assisted her with the collection, sorting and delivery. Troupe #5976
would like to thank everyone who contributed canned goods during the
drive. Students would like you to know that you’ve made a huge
difference for people in need throughout the community.
The
International Thespian Society (ITS), founded in 1929, is an
honorary organization for high school and middle school theatre
students. There are more than 3,900 affiliated secondary schools
across America, Canada, and abroad. The mission of ITS is to honor
student achievement in the theatre arts. ITS is the student honorary
organization of the Educational Theatre Association (EdTA), a
national nonprofit organization with approximately 90,000 student
and professional members. EdTA’s mission is shaping lives through
theatre education by: honoring student achievement in theatre and
enriching their theatre education experience; supporting teachers by
providing professional development, networking opportunities,
resources, and recognition; and influencing public opinion that
theatre education is essential and builds life skills. EdTA operates
the International Thespian Society (ITS), which has inducted more
than two million theatre students since its founding in 1929. EdTA
also publishes Dramatics, a monthly magazine for high school theatre
students, and Teaching Theatre, a quarterly journal for theatre
education professionals.
