PRESCHOOL OPENINGS FOR THE FALL!

Are you thinking about enrolling your child in preschool this fall? Are you looking for a place where your child can make friends, learn in a program that encompasses all learning styles and abilities? Do you want your child to go to school at a place where children are allowed to express their normal curiosity while being stimulated and learning new skills? Now is the time to take action!

The Center School in Northwood is currently accepting registrations for the 2013-2014 school year. There are only a few openings left in our Monday/Wednesday/Friday class at this time.  We also have openings in our Tuesday/Thursday class as well.  Or, if you are interested, your child could come all five mornings!

The Center School is a parent cooperative preschool located next to the Town Hall in Northwood, which provides a developmental program for three, four, and five year olds of Northwood and surrounding towns.  Call or email us soon to find out about the school or to get an information packet! For information, please email our director, Karen Andersen at [email protected] or call her at the school at 942-7686.

Act quickly! School starts the first week of September.

This sticker was found on our Got Social Security? Thank Democrats bumper sticker after doing some errands in Northwood. It sure is news to us! I wonder how we ever qualified for our most appreciated monthly Social Security checks, and why we filed tax returns every year and paid what was due.  It’s a mystery!

Letter To The Editor

To the Editor,

Recently I spoke to many of you on an issue that was very near and dear to me. I’ll say we, but I personally asked you to approve a School Board issue that would give 6 teachers an incentive to retire, allowing for us to hire less expensive replacements. 83% of you approved the plan, thank you.

One question asked was what guarantee the voters had? I repeatedly told you that the School Board had an agreement with the principal to limit new hires at 40K or less. I still believe this to be absolutely the case. However the Board violated what “I” believe was an agreement on this issue.  3 other members stated that they felt that an average pay was the agreement. One member stated that anyone who did not feel that they met the “spirit” of the agreement was “myopic”. OK, so this Board member who spent many, many hours taking this issue to Superior Court without counsel saving thousands of dollars, who spent three days at the recycling center (you’re welcome Jim), is myopic. So be it.

Today even our Presidents parse words and frankly outright lie to us; I like to tell you the truth. I believe that I did, but it appears that I misled you. I apologize and have learned a very valuable lesson.

Two weeks ago I took on the extra duty of being the Board Representative to the Budget Committee knowing that the difficulties would be immense. I have informed the Board that I have rescinded that decision. I have great respect for the Budget Committee and I will not be put into a situation where I might “mistakenly” mislead them. As they say  “been there, done that”. I didn’t enjoy it.
