Interfaith Community Kitchen
For
those in need of a free cooked meal or an evening of fellowship, the
Interfaith Community Kitchen, located at St. Joseph’s Church, on
Route 4 in Northwood, will open its doors each Monday evening from
5:30-7:00. Join us for food and friendship. No reservations

Congratulations to William Watkinson of Northwood, NH who earned a
Bachelor of Science in Health and Science Studies from Quinnipiac
University during the 81st undergraduate commencement exercises on
May 20.

The Else
Cilley chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution had its
first meeting of the year at the Happenings room at Havenwood,
Concord, NH. Resident and long time member of the chapter, Ann
Chaplin, hosted the meeting along with her daughter, Susann, and
Regent Jan Gilman. The wormen’s Issures program focused on keeping
minds alert and ended with Mrs. Gilman giving each member a booklet
filled with puzzles to do, a recommended strategy for warding off
forgetfulness.
The
business meeting included the President General’s message read by
Vice Regent Barbara Frangione and a National Defense message
prepared by Peg Franz. Reports of officers and committee
chairpersons were given. Business discussion centered around
necessary repairs that have been done and still need to be completed
at the chapter Historic Building. Members shared fundraising idea.
The next
meeting will be held at the chapter’s historic Nottingham
Schoolhouse in Nottingham, NH on Saturday, May 19, beginning at 1:30
pm. chapter winner of the DAR American History Essay Contest, Haley
Donovan, of Timberlane Regional Middle School will be recognized.
Haley is a resident of Sandown, NH. Refreshments and a Trivia game
will be part of the awards ceremony.
Women interested in joining the DAR are encouraged to attend a
meeting. The DAR is a non-profit, non-political volunteer women’s
service organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving
American history and securing America’s future through education.

Thanks to Brooke Esdale for her contribution to the Northwood Food
Pantry. Brooke is a senior at Coe-Brown Academy and has published a
cookbook for her senior portfolio. All proceeds from the cookbook
will be donated to the Northwood Food Pantry, which provides needed
food supplies to people in the community. Shown in the photo is Pat

On May 1
the women of the Harvey Lake Woman’s Club traveled to Concord for a
tour of the New Hampshire State House. Tour guide, Virginia Drew,
did an outstanding job of presenting our beautiful capitol building.
It was a thoroughly enjoyable day in spite of the rain and was
topped off with a stop for ice cream on the way back to Northwood.
At the
annual meeting of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs-NH our
local president Genevieve Rogers was designated the honoree from
HLWC. She was also appointed to the nominating committee of GFWC-NH.
The annual HLWC Book Scholarship awarded to a deserving Northwood
female graduating senior was presented to Allura LeBlanc.
The June
5 annual luncheon will again be held at the Red Apple Restaurant in
East Concord. Meet to car pool at the Northwood Congregational
Church by 11:15 a.m. Plan to pay Elaine Covey $11 at the restaurant.
HLWC is
a service organization and a member of General Federation of Women’s
Clubs-NH. Its object is to promote sociability and culture and to
make itself a power for good in the community. All women in the area
are invited to join us.
