which provides a developmental program for three, four, and five
year-olds of Northwood and surrounding towns. There are
openings in our two-day (T/Th) program and three-day (M/W/F) morning
programs. Call us soon and come to visit! For

Friends Of The Northwood Library
The
Friends of the Northwood Library will present “Humor and Harmony IV”
featuring Rebecca Rule and Cordwood at the Masonic Hall on Route 4
in Northwood on Saturday, May 7, from 7:00-9:00 p.m. Plan on taking
your mother out for Mother’s Day! Suggested donation is $5.00
per person at the door. Baked goods and coffee will be available
for purchase. Proceeds will be used to purchase a new outdoor
sign for the library.
Rebecca Rule, aka the Moose of Humor, is a
humorist/writer who specializes in funny stories about New
Hampshire. You never know what is going to happen once the
lies, uh, stories start flying. Her CDs are “Better Than a
Poke in the Eye” and “Perley Gets a Dump Sticker.” Her latest
books are “Live Free & Eat Pie: A Storyteller’s Guide to New
Hampshire” and “Headin’ for the Rhubarb: A New Hampshire Dictionary
(well, kinda).”
Cordwood is a bluegrass and folk quartet made up
of instrumental, vocal, and recording artists from Northwood,
Strafford, and Deerfield. This is not your local neighborhood
hobby band. They are a fine group of seasoned New England
musicians. Each can hold his or her own at field picking or a
back stage jam, and yet, as a band, they present a highly polished
on-stage performance. All four members of Cordwood are
storytellers and songwriters, creating original material for
instrumentalists who can sing and harmonize, sometimes taking the
lead vocal, other times hanging back and lending two, three, or even
four part harmonies to a song. Cordwood provides a unique
sound to both originals and the covers they perform. Their
tunes remain heartfelt and down-home. The band’s material is a
mixture of traditional bluegrass, folk, and swing. Cordwood is
Wini Young on banjo and guitar, Walt Kutylowski on bass, Al Pratt on
guitar, and Bob Young on mandolin, names you may remember from Big
Chicken, The Deerfield Coffeehouse Band and Fat Hands.

To all Northwood Residents: The Northwood School Board has
scheduled a Special School District Meeting to be held on Monday,
May 9 at 7:00 pm in the school library. The purpose of this
special meeting is to consider forming an SAU withdrawal committee.
As most of you know, the Northwood School is currently part of
SAU #44, a three-district SAU that also includes the towns of
Strafford and Nottingham. After careful consideration, the
Northwood School Board feels that we should look at the feasibility
of becoming a single district SAU. The process begins with a
special school district meeting (and a subsequent ballot vote) to
form a withdrawal committee.
At the hearing on May 9th, the
Board will present its reasons for recommending the formation of
this committee. Citizens will have the opportunity to speak
and ask questions. Since Northwood is now an SB2 town, no vote
will be taken on May 9th. The actual ballot vote on the issue
will be held on Tuesday, June 7th, at the Parish Center at St.
Joseph’s Church. The polls will be open from 8:00 am to 7:00
pm.
If the town votes to form a withdrawal committee,
this committee will research all aspects of withdrawal and will make
a final recommendation to the town. If the committee
recommends withdrawal, the committee will then create a withdrawal
plan that will be presented to the town and the state for approval.
We strongly encourage residents to come to the hearing on May 9th.
The Board’s presentation will explain the financial, educational and
administrative reasons that support the formation of an SAU
withdrawal committee.
Thank you. The Northwood School
Board

Determination Submitted By Jack Adams (his grampa)
Jack
Victoria, age 21, Northwood NH native in Epping, NH: 2010 Ironman
Championship, Lee USA Speedway. 2011 Road Runner Division,
Racing Star Speedway.
Last year Jack took a lot of razzing from the other drivers; “You
only win because your car is the fastest on the track.”
Through the winter, Jack told me that he wanted to race his last
year’s car and beat his 2010 championship car. Sunday, April
17th, he got his chance. His friend wasn’t going to race his
Ironman car because of extreme costs, because the A.C.T. 150 was
beginning. Jack was told by his friend, take my car to Lee and
run it. Jack worked on the car all Saturday night, until 4:00
Sunday morning. This car ran at Lee in 2010, and was not a
factor. Jack had 7 laps practice before the heat race, he came
in 2nd place. After two other division races, Jack started in
the middle of the pack, worked his way through the field to win the
feature.
Jack did what he said he wanted to do, beat his
2010 championship car. “I had to prove to the other drivers
that I didn’t have the fastest car last year, but could still win."

Having voted with the rest of his Republican congressional
colleagues to limit Medicare to an empty name with none of the
provisions that have kept our seniors able to live without having to
choose between food, shelter and healthcare, and to shovel some more
of what is left of the wealth of the rest of us into the pockets of
the rich, Frank Guinta is coming home to the district again.
So I am asking him, since you aren’t doing anything to help us in
DC, are you planning to explain why not while you are at home?
Or is this just a chance to hobnob with the Republican presidential
hopefuls and get your name mentioned on the Scoop?
Once upon a
time, it seems so long ago already, I had a representative in
Congress who not only listened to me and others here, but who
created and sponsored legislation that improved the lives of
veterans, seniors, students and workers in NH and across the
country. But things are looking up. This week Carol Shea
Porter stepped back into the fray. She’s going to run again!
We look around at the destruction that the November election
results have created so far, and pray for relief from our Senates
and chief executives, both here and in DC. I hope everyone who
voted for these people, expecting different results, and especially
those who didn’t bother to vote at all, are praying along with me.
