2nd
Annual Stuff The Bus Fundraiser A Success!
On Saturday, August
7th, Cocheco Valley Humane Society Volunteer, Nicole Roberts
organized the 2nd Annual Stuff The Bus for the homeless animals
living at the shelter. A total of $6,275 in cash and in-kind
donations was presented to Martha Hewitt, Executive Director of
CVHS.
Held at Heritage True Value Hardware on Route 4 in
Northwood, the event ran from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and proved to be a
great success. Dozens of community members and local businesses came
together to show their support by dropping off items in the bus,
such as pet food and toys. The school bus itself, provided by
Northwood Transportation Inc., was filled with all types of dry and
canned pet foods, blankets, animal beds, toys, cleaning products,
and treats. Many adopted dogs from CVHS also came by to show their
appreciation.
The bus was unloaded at Cocheco Valley
Humane Society the following Monday with help from the shelter’s
staff members. The collected supplies and products will be used by
the shelter and also will be available to the public in need through
CVHS’s Pet Food Assistance Program.
The Stuff The Bus
fundraiser was part of Nicole’s senior portfolio project, required
to graduate in May of 2011. She would like to sincerely thank all
those who came and donated to the cause, as well as the local
businesses that provided raffle items and participated in the
business challenge. A special thanks to Deb D’Alessandro of
Northwood Transportation Inc. for all of her guidance and support,
and to Bruce DeTrude and all at Heritage Hardware for the use of
their facility and help during this project.

Meeting: We will meet again on Monday, September 13th at 7:00
PM in the Town Hall. All are welcome! We will be talking about our
continued efforts to build a PLAYGROUND right here in town! We are
looking for people who want to volunteer their time, talent, ideas
and resources to help make this project happen! In this meeting we
would like to make a decision about a vendor and get started on
fundraising plans.
To
Serve And Protect
Do you recognize any of these people? Here are some clues: the three
Northwood lawmen (as they were called at the time) were on call 24
hours a day and residents would call their home phone numbers to
reach them as there was no police station. Their identity will be
revealed in next week’s Sun.
