Reminder

The First Baptist Church of Northwood will be presenting the Clown Ministry of “The Joyful Joeys” on Sunday, March 15 at 10 a.m. Come and join us in worship with this joyful ministry of worship and praise.

Northwood Girl Scouts Junior Troop 2589

Northwood Girl Scout Troop 2589 will be holding two Girl Scout Cookie Booth Sales. On March 14 from 9 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. we will be at the Northwood Post Office and at the Town Meeting at Coe Brown.

Our girls are collecting nonperishable food items for the Northwood Food Pantry and collecting books, new or slightly used in good condition. Those of you not interested in cookies can always buy a box for our Troops over seas. Each year Girl Scouts collect thousands of boxes and with help from the Air National Guard we send them to NH men and Women over seas.

As always, we thank you for helping us help those in our community.
See you Saturday.

In February 2009, 23 Allegro Dance Academy dancers from New Hampshire, including Northwood Kindergartener, Tatum McClelland, flew to Walt Disney World, Florida, for the performance of a lifetime. The dancers ranged in age from 6-18 and were led by studio director, Jen McLaughlin and choreographer, Mariclare Pollicelli. They performed in Downtown Disney on 02/23/09 in a variety of dances all themed around occupations that they may want to be when they grow up. In addition to their performance, they were given the opportunity to attend a workshop sponsored by the Disney dancers in Epcot. All 23 dancers had family and friends along for support and fun. Many great memories were made and I know that I speak on behalf of all of the families when I say that we are so proud of you, way to go ladies and gentleman!!!

A Message From Esther Asbell, Principal Of Northwood School

I have some exciting news to share with all of you about Northwood School.  In November of this year Northwood School formally applied for an ”EDies” award.  This is an award granted by the New Hampshire Excellence in Education organization. This is a  highly competitive process and the first step is to fill out an application for review by the “EDies” Board.  If the application is strong enough the “EDies” Board requests that the school comes to them and makes a presentation. Northwood School made the first cut and a panel of staff and parents made a presentation in early February. After presentations are made, the “EDies” organization decides if your school is in the final running for an award. If so, the panel then visits the school.  I AM DELIGHTED TO ANNOUNCE THAT NORTHWOOD SCHOOL HAS MADE THE FINAL CUT AND  IS ONE OF THE FEW K-8 SCHOOLS UP FOR THIS AWARD!!  The panel will be coming to our school on March 11, 2009 for a visit. It is a true honor for our school to have made it this far in the process.

Snowshoe Club At Northwood School

Snowshoe Club at Northwood School was a big success.  We had 40 students in grades K-4 that took part in the after school club.  Mrs. Gasowski wants to thank the parent and staff volunteers who helped students learn about snowshoeing while having fun. They were:  Mrs. Thoms, Mrs. Canfield, Mrs. Peverly, Mrs. Hampl, Mrs. Lamontage, and Mrs. Magnusson.

Jump Rope for Heart

March 25, 2:15-3:45

Kick off for our annual American Heart Association fundraising event, JUMP ROPE FOR HEART  is underway at Northwood School.  For many years our school has taken part in this service project because this organization helps our nation’s citizens learn about healthy lifestyles and how to avoid the problems caused by overeating, inactivity and poor food choices.  Anyone in our school can take part in this fundraiser by collecting donations for the American Heart Association or sponsoring a jumper coming to the after school jump rope event on Wednesday, March 25.  If you want to participate or have questions contact Mrs. Gasowski at the school.

A special Family Fun Night is planned for Friday, March 13 from 6:00 to 7:30 in the Northwood school gym. YOGA. This event is for children from Pre-K through grade 5, along with a parent (or parents). Ruth from Peace Tree Yoga will be our instructor. If you have a yoga mat, bring it with you. If not a towel will do, and we do have a few extra mats. You will be asked to remove your shoes upon entering the gym, so no need to bring gym shoes for this event. It sounds like great fun and good exercise. We hope you can join us.

Northwood PTA

Please Join Us For A Night Of Intrigue…
The Northwood Elementary School Drama Club and the Northwood PTA have partnered in hosting a murder mystery dinner theater event, The Beauty Pageant.

Have you ever wanted to attend a beauty pageant -  watch the show as it is being developed, see the girls as they prepare for the competition, pity their mothers as they watch jealously on the sidelines?  Tonight is the night you’ve been waiting for! Your precious family member (sister, cousin, whatever) is competing for the grand title of Miss Perky Pout and you’re here to cheer her on. Never underestimate the impact of crowd approval, so make sure the judges hear you as you support your “girl”.  Unfortunately, beauty pageants also bring out the worst in some people…so don’t be surprised at some of the shenanigans being pulled by contestants, their ever-present mothers, or even the judges, who have their own ulterior motives for being there.

The performance will take place on Wednesday, April 8, 2009, at the Northwood Elementary School Cafeteria.  Dinner will be served at 5:30 pm and the performance will begin at 6:00 pm.  Please order in advance as seating is limited to accommodate the performance; contact Jennifer Boulanger at 603-942-8944 or [email protected] for ticket orders or visit the School website and click on Parents and then PTA.  Ticket prices are $10.00 per adult and $5.00 per child (family maximum of $20.00 when ordered in advance) and all proceeds will benefit the NES Drama Club.

Please join us…
Northwood PTA President,
Jessica Snider
NES Drama Club,

Letter to the Editor

The elections are over! Regardless of the results, congratulations to all the candidates and voters who took the time to participate. Unfortunately this year many of the races were uncontested. Without discussion and debate, new ideas are not born. We need to find a way to bring more residents into the process, so we can improve the results. The Town meeting is Saturday, March 14th and your opinions are very important. I hope to see you there.
