Rick & Robin Drown in Hawaii
Thanks are extended to all the people in the Northwood community and beyond
who contributed to the Hawaii trip for the Drowns and made this very special
vacation possible.
In Rick and Robin’s words: “We would like to thank all family, friends and
corporate individuals that contributed to our Maui trip. The weather was
beautiful – 70’s and 80’s every day. We went to the Maui Ocean Center, drove
the winding road up the mountain to the little town of Hana, saw the Drums
Pacific Luau with beautiful entertainment and food, went on a 1 hour
helicopter ride and most rewarding we renewed our wedding vows of 32 years
on the beach of Maui. This trip would not have been possible without your
concern and gift. We want to thank you all again. It will be a trip we will
both never forget.”
Foundation For
Christmas (Part I)
By Pastor Ted White
Another Christmas (celebration of Christ) is upon us. Let’s take a few
moments this week to focus on a statement that was made to Joseph in Matthew
1:21 where the angel says to Joseph, “You shall call His name Jesus, for He
will save His people from their sins.” This is a major theme surrounding the
birth of Jesus Christ. He is the greatest gift ever to be offered. We will
look briefly the next few weeks at a foundational sketch the Lord has
prepared for us to consider. It includes bad news and good news.
Picture if you would, the stone tablets of the 10 Commandments. How many
people in the world have broken these commandments? If you said all people,
you are right. It doesn’t take too long to see that we all have broken His
commands. For instance, have you ever lied… even just a small one or not
told the whole truth? You see, if doesn’t take long to see we have all
broken the 10 Commandments of God.
Actually, the 10 Commandments were given to show our need. They show God’s
perfection and only He keeps them perfectly. Romans 3:19-23 tells us that
the law closes every mouth, that the whole world is guilty before God and
that our good works can’t save us. The law gives the knowledge of sin and
shows that we are all sinners. You see God’s Word tells us that Jesus would
save His people from their sin. Before that can happen, a person needs to
admit that he is a sinner. If people do not admit that they are sinners,
Jesus cannot save them - cannot save them from judgment in hell or save
them to an eternal relationship with Him.
In Galatians 3:24 we are told that the law was given to bring us to Christ
that by faith in Him, justice has been served on our behalf. We accept the
punishment He took for us at the cross. So, the law was given to point us
toward the birth of the one who would save us from our sins! Trust Jesus for
this! He is the Greatest Gift ever given.
God wants you to enjoy the life He has given you and to escape the
consequence of death, which is separation from Him forever, under His wrath
in Hell. To do so go to

CBNA Alumni
Basketball Games Draw Spirited Crowd
The annual Coe-Brown Northwood Academy (CBNA) alumni basketball games,
traditionally held on the eve of Thanksgiving, were played in front of an
audience of 500 current CBNA students, alumni, family and friends. A
highlight of the event was the drawing for a movie gift basket, which was
donated by Holy Rosary Credit Union. The basket was prepared by Gift Baskets
by Your Design of Concord and won by Katrina Canney, class of 2008, a
resident of Barrington.
In the girls’ game, which was played first, the alumni beat the current
Coe-Brown team by a close score of 46 to 41. The CBNA boys won their game
against their alumni opponents, with a final score of 81 to 54. Each year,
former CBNA basketball players return to the academy to participate in the
alumni game. Proceeds from the event support CBNA’s basketball program.
This year, three sets of brothers played opposite each other in the boys’
game: Stuart ’08 and Skyler ’12 Mitchell; Nate ‘06 and Sam ’10 Bassett; Bret
’06 and Kevin ’09 Grenier. The CBNA boys’ basketball team is coached by
Headmaster David S. Smith and the CBNA girls’ basketball team is coached by
CBNA guidance counselor Stephen Smith.
