Northwood  Lake Survey

Pete Jones, Northwood Lake Watershed Association, and Michael Lennon from ACT, Inc., conducted the lake’s annual lake vegetation survey on October 8. There is both good and bad news. The bad news is that there is still milfoil in the lake in some spots and some of it is new growth, although very immature. There is also some old milfoil in the lake. Good news is, the existing milfoil is very sparse, just one or two plants instead of the mats of milfoil seen last year. ACT’s recommendation is to go through the winter and another season before making a final judgment on this summer’s treatment.

Volunteers are still needed for the lake bottom clean-up, after the drawdown, at the Epsom end of the lake. The clean-up will be between November 8 - December 8. Please get your group involved in keeping Northwood Lake beautiful. We can be reached at www.northwoodlake.com

Stormwater Management

Submitted by Northwood Water Resource
sub-committee (sub-committee of Planning Board)
Stormwater runoff results from rainfall and/or snow melt which runs across surfaces which water can not penetrate (roofs, driveways, patios etc.) rather than absorbing into the ground.

Stormwater management is the management or control of stormwater runoff for the purposes of reducing flooding, downstream erosion and water quality degradation.

TTG Environmental Consultants have prepared a report prescribing the best ways the Town of Northwood can minimize the impact of stormwater runoff. You are welcome to attend a presentation of a draft of this report to Northwood Planning Board meeting at 7:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m., November 13th, 2008, at the Northwood Town Hall.

Letter

We are really fortunate to have five thoughtful, caring, courageous and talented people running for state representative for our towns.

I consider myself lucky to know these Democrats and call them my friends.

Gile Beye loves the landscape we inhabit and works hard to preserve it for us and our descendants. She is a first time candidate who has served on the planning board in Deerfield.

Maureen Mann won a special election earlier this year. Her citizen journalism project, The Forum, our newspaper, has showcased her abilities as a leader and a team player. She is deliberative and strong in her convictions of the right things to do.

Susi Nord is a model of clear thought, while never letting us forget the people who need us. She reminds us that money is not the only important thing we need to consider.

Dick Snow could have taken his retirement as a reason to slow down, but instead he continues to serve the people of our communities. He is never afraid to speak his mind.

Tom St. Martin, a former legislator, always brings a quick intelligence with a touch of humor to his conversations and decisions. I treasure his ability to help me put the issues in perspective.

I hope you will vote for this great team to represent us in the NH House. They are not one-trick ponies, not just for cutting taxes and slashing spending with no details and no apparent interest in the effects of such policies. We deserve better than simplistic sound bites in these difficult times.

Pastor’s Corner
The Wrath of God!

By Pastor Ted White
People generally are comfortable with the love of God, but not the wrath of God. God is love. That is His very character, but He is also a God of wrath, of judgment. If you are reading this article, you are either in the love of God or under the wrath of God. But, it is not just a matter of thinking or saying that I am in the love of God and not the wrath of God, rather, it is by a life lived out in obedience to God. Not out of drudgery or passiveness, but in love and devotion.

In John 3:18 we read “Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.” So for the person who has not come to belief in Jesus (trusted His finished work at the cross, the resurrection and who He is as the Son of God) stands condemned before God already. If that person were to die in that condition He would be separated forever… forever apart from God in Hell, a place no person should want to go. This is a common, very common teaching of Jesus. It is a warning. Listen to this in John 3:36. “Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on Him.” Again, for the person who hasn’t come to the point of trusting Jesus as Savior and Lord, they are presently under the wrath of God. But for those who have trusted Him, they have eternal life.

It is my hope and prayer that you do know the love of God so you won’t experience the wrath of God. You are presently in one or the other.

God wants you to enjoy the life He has given you and to escape the consequence of death, which is separation from Him forever, under His wrath in Hell. To do so go to www.newhopenorthwood.com or call 942-7729.

Coe-Brown Northwood Academy Announces AP® Scholar Awards

Two recent graduates of Coe-Brown Northwood Academy, Rebecca Rubenstein and Matthew Blake, have earned the designation of AP Scholar by the College Board in recognition of their exceptional achievement on the college-level Advanced Placement Program® (AP®) Exams. The College Board’s Advanced Placement Program offers students the opportunity to take challenging college-level courses while still in high school, and to receive college credit, advanced placement or both for successful performance on the AP Exams. About 18 percent of the more than 1.4 million high school students in 16,000 secondary schools worldwide who took AP Exams performed at a sufficiently high level to merit the recognition of AP Scholar. Students took AP Exams in May 2008 after completing challenging college-level courses at their high schools. Ms. Rubenstein and Mr. Blake qualified for the AP Scholar Award by completing three or more AP Exams, with grades of 3 or higher. Ms. Rubenstein is currently studying engineering at Weidner University and Mr. Blake attends Johns Hopkins University majoring in mechanical engineering.  Congratulations to them both.

The College Board is a not-for-profit membership organization whose mission is to connect students to college success and opportunity. Among its best-known programs are the SAT®, the PSAT/NMSQT®, and the Advanced Placement Program® (AP®). The College Board is committed to the principles of excellence and equity, and that commitment is embodied in all of its programs, services, activities, and concerns.
