Pittsfield Middle High School (PMHS) will hold its inaugural
Athletic Hall of Fame induction on Saturday, September 19, at
6:00 p.m. in the high school gymnasium. The Hall of Fame was
established by a group of students, teachers, and coaches to
recognize former athletes, coaches, and contributors to the
Athletic Department. The first class includes Carroll Higgins,
Jonas Glidden, and Nathan Brown.
Carroll Higgins served the Pittsfield School District as a
physical education teacher, coach, and athletic director from
1967-1980. Mr. Higgins guided the 1968 boys’ basketball team to
its first state tournament appearance in 25 years and the
following season the boys’ basketball team was a state finalist.
Mr. Higgins was also the boys soccer coach from 1967-1975 and
the boys team finished as the state runner-up in 1970.

1970-2005 as a social studies teacher, coach, and athletic
director. Mr. Glidden coached the girls’ basketball team from
1970-1990 and 1995-2003. Over that time, Mr. Glidden won 299
games and coached the girls’ basketball team to the 1984 state
championship. In 2001 Mr. Glidden was recognized with the Union
Leader’s Walter Smith Award for coaching.
Nathan Brown, Class of 2001, was a three-sport athlete at PMHS.
Nathan was the valedictorian of his class and received the NHIAA
Athletic Directors Academic and Athletic Award. He played
soccer, basketball, and baseball for four years at PMHS and he
was recognized as an All-State first team selection in all three
sports in 2001. Nathan also guided the boys’ baseball team to
the 2001 state championship.
The
