Chichester Garden Tour Set For July 20
The Chichester Garden Club is proud to announce its
first biennial “Historic Chichester Garden Tour” being held
Saturday, July 20, 2013. Tickets are $12 in advance/$15 day of
event and are available at Chichester Historical Society on Tuesdays
9-12, Town Library (M&W 2:30-8:30, T&T 10-1:30, F 1:30-4:30, Sat
9-12) and online
[email protected]. Only cash
and checks can be accepted.
Twelve distinctive gardens have been selected to offer a
cross-section of different types of gardens. See
gardens of all types - vegetable, flower; shade, sun; fern; herb;
specialty. Some are wide open while others are secluded. Some have
hidden treasures in the woods awaiting discovery; others sport
hilltop views. Most have sculptures and statuary; and still others
have architectural and water features.
Attendees will begin their day by parking at the Grange Hall and
crossing the street to the Historical Society (49 Main Street) to
register for the Tour. Each registrant will receive a numbered
ticket and a Garden Tour program; a detailed direction sheet is also
available. Host Site #1 begins with the Memorial Gardens at the
Grange. Concluding the Tour with Host Site #12, participants will
return to the Historical Society to view a Heritage Garden,
capturing days of old combining beauty with practicality with
culinary and medicinal herbs. Please feel free to stroll through
the Museum and Museum Gift shop.
To complement the Garden Tour, a Monet style sidewalk café will be
offered on the lawn. Please stay to relax and enjoy a delicious and
diverse selection of refreshments which will meet most dietary
needs. View original artwork on display and for sale; speak with
the local artists at the Floral Art Exhibition. A Plant Sale is
also available.
The Chichester Garden Club started in the fall of 2012; and in
January 2013, it became more formalized and was asked to participate
in outreach projects: 1) to assist with landscape design for the
Grange Hall; and 2) to help maintain the Town Library gardens.
Since finding new members was a priority, it was decided that a
garden tour would help build interest, as well as further the club’s
objective to encourage more flower and vegetable gardens in
Chichester, to promote the love of gardening, civic beautification
and environmental responsibility through education and example.
The garden club has been working closely with its partners
Chichester Historical Society, Chichester Heritage Commission, Town
Library and Chichester Photography Club to ensure a successful
event. It was felt that collaborating with a variety of town
organizations for a community wide event would not only be a
successful endeavor, it would bring the town organizations closer
together, encourage working together for a common goal and building
a sense of community. Ticket proceeds will benefit these five
organizations.
Join us for a delightful day at the Historic Chichester Garden Tour
on July 20th!
