Boy Scout Troop 312 Northwood Welcomes New Scouts; Gets
Ready For Trip To Northern Tier High Adventure Base This Summer
On March 3rd Troop 312 welcomed new Scouts at the cross-over
ceremony held at Storer Scout Camp. The boys, left to right, are
Noah Sinnamon, Brice Lussier, and Jacob McHugh, all of Northwood.
They have moved on from the Cub Scout Pack and are now official Boy
Scouts. Congratulations Gentlemen!
Northwood Boy Scout Troop 312 is in the middle of a great year, with
many more activities set for this spring and a big trip planned for
the summer. Along with hiking, camping, and biking trips coming up,
this month the boys will go to the Northwood Police Department to
work on the Fingerprinting Merit Badge, and later in the month the
older boys will complete the Aviation Merit Badge by learning how to
do pre-flight checks and navigate on a private plane. Several of the
boys are also taking part in the Harvard Merit Badge University,
held on the Harvard campus in Boston. There they will be earning
badges like Chemistry, Space Exploration, and Energy. One of the
Scouts will even learn how to build and launch model rockets.
The older boys in the Troop have spent the year preparing for a big
summer adventure. In August they will be traveling to one of only
three official Boy Scouts of America High Adventure Bases, Northern
Tier in Minnesota. There they will spend eight days canoeing on the
Canadian Boundary Waters while fishing and camping in and around the
islands.
The boys are very excited and are getting closer to their
fundraising goal. If you would like to help out by purchasing a $10
Home or Auto First Aid kit, a Scout would be happy to hand deliver
it to you. You can email
[email protected] or call 269-7760 for a delivery.
Meanwhile the younger Scouts will spend a week at Boy Scout Summer
Camp, learning skills like fire building, pocket knife safety,
archery, riflery, swimming and boating. They will be participating
in a hike-a-thon in the spring to help raise money for camp.
The Troop was proud to honor John Jarvis who recently earned the
rank of Eagle Scout, and another Scout is currently working on his
Eagle Project. Logan Hales has set up donation boxes in the greater
Suncook Valley community, working to fill 100 Backpacks for Foster
Kids. There is a donation box at Heritage True Value Hardware in
Northwood if you would like to help.
Why miss all of this fun? Boy ages 11-17 are welcome to join Scouts
anytime. The Troop meets on Monday nights at the St. Joseph’s Church
Hall from 7 pm to 8:30 pm. Stop in one night and check out the troop
to see what your boys can learn while having a great time. Dues are
just $1 a week and they will get to do fun things like archery,
climbing, camping, and will learn priceless things like wilderness
survival, safety and first aid.
