4-H Food Drive a Huge Success!

Pictured in the photo is Ed Patterson receiving a basketful of

food donations along with a card signed by all the 4H kids

who made donations!

Victory Workers 4H once again held its annual Food Drive. Despite the declining economy, 4H kids and families came out in full force to make donations to the Pittsfield Food Pantry. The Food Pantry was very appreciative of the efforts made by the 4H families.

The Food Pantry stock is very low this year and more donations are desperately needed. The Food Pantry is in need of not just food items, but also items that we use every day, like tooth brushes, tooth paste, toilet paper, etc. We have agreed to hold another 4H food drive in the Spring to help them once again. Please be sure to help us make this the biggest food drive ever, mark your calendars!

Thank you to everyone who contributed, your donations made a big difference!

Hospice ‘Lights of Life’ Opening Ceremony is Friday, December 5

Concord Regional VNA volunteers and staff prepare Hospice Lights of Life

for distribution to local businesses. Left to right are Jean Bragg, Jane Bunker,

Marnie Verville, Starr Tardif, Landis Donaghy, Heather Larivee, Kathleen Ames,

John Sheehy, Doris Harrington, George Harrington, and Mary McGahan.

The opening ceremony for Concord Regional Visiting Nurse Association’s “Lights of Life” takes place Friday, December 5 at 7 p.m. at the Merrimack County Savings Bank, 89 N. Main Street, Concord. Following the ceremony, hundreds of electric candles will be lit throughout December in the windows of downtown Concord, Contoocook, Henniker, Hillsboro, Penacook, and Pittsfield. Each candle represents a loved one of members of our communities.

Participants in that ceremony are reminded that each candle represents an honored memory of a loved one in the community. Speaking briefly at the ceremony will be Jimmy Dean, whose mother received services from the Hospice Program of Concord Regional VNA.

Hospice is a philosophy of care that focuses on the quality of life remaining, not just the length of time. This unique approach offers physical, emotional and spiritual comfort to terminally ill individuals and their families.

The community volunteers for Hospice Lights of Life 2008 included Kathleen Ames, Rebecca Biss, Jean Bragg, Jane Bunker, Karen Carlson, Hilary Dooley, Charlene Greenleaf, Doris Harrington, George Harrington, Maureen Kesting, Mary McGahan, Loretta Petrin, John Sheehy, Joyce Smykil, Marnie Verville, and Yvonne Wiegelman.
