The Suncook Valley 10U All-Star Girls Softball team finished third place
at Regionals held in Pittsfield, Massachusetts the weekend of July 30th.
This came after their victories in both the Districts and the States.
This was a big success for the Suncook Valley 10U All-Star team.
Suncook Valley is a league made up of 8 towns: Alton, New Durham,
Barnstead, Pittsfield, Chichester, Gilmanton, Northwood, and Epsom. These
are small towns and there are no places for these kids to practice
throughout the winter. Their regular season starts with practices in April
(provided the grounds are dry enough) and games start on May 1st and run
through the middle of June.
The Suncook Valley league is an All Star league and these kids are
chosen from these 8 towns. Because their regular season is so short,
we have to start choosing kids in May for the All Star team in order to get
them ready for the tournaments. These kids have to play half of their
regular season games in order to qualify for All Stars, so the All Star team
can only practice on Sundays until the regular season is complete.
This makes it tough for this league to compete in the tournaments because
they don’t have a lot of time to work together as a team.
Last year the Suncook Valley 10U All Stars won their Districts and
qualified for States. Then they went to States and as good as they were they
did not make it past States. This year the 10U All Star team played in the
Newport tournament and won it. Then they went to Districts and won that,
which qualified them for States. Then they went to States and won that,
which qualified them for Regionals. They ended up finishing in 3rd place at
Regionals. Unfortunately, this was their last stop. This was a huge
accomplishment for this team. With great coaching staff and a dedicated
team, this was the team to beat.
The Suncook Valley Board would like to congratulate the coaches of the
10U Suncook Valley All-Star team: Rob Carpenter (Manager), Rick Burley
(Coach), and Charlene Burke (Coach) for a great job with the girls.
The Board would also like to thank the parents for their support and good
sportsmanship at these tournaments and making us proud to be a part of
Suncook Valley. Without the coaches and the support of the parents, this
team would not have made it as far as they did.
