Painting A Landmark
Submitted By Commander Gerard A. LeDuc
Epsom American Legion Post 112

Red Hot Pressure Wash of Manchester preparing to remove the old paint from the tank. The next step will be painting  the tank.

Bill Zarakotas, a Legion Member, Steve Zarakotas and Dennis Noonan of Noonan Brothers Painting painting the tank.

The Epsom American Legion’s Post was given a M30 A3 Tank a few years ago. It was starting to rust and was in need of painting. We had no funds to do this task. When a new member, Bill Zarakotas made a proposal to the group that his son could do the job. Bill talked to his son who got the Noonan Brother Painting Company to paint the tank. They got Red Hot Pressure Wash Company to remove the rust off the tank. They also got Sherwin Williams, of Concord who supplied some of the paint and painting supplies for the job and the New Hampshire Army National Guard Joint Force Headquarters also supplied two gallons of paint for the job.

Over the last week the work has been done on prepping the tank for its face lift. Off came the old paint by using high pressure water. This way of doing it helps preserve the tank. This causes little damage the under lining metal. Last Saturday the painting began. The three men, Bill, Steve Zarakotas and Dennis Noonan painted the Tank. This tank is a direction finder. When people ask directions it is usually from that location. When you see these men thank them for the job they did for this landmark. As for me being the Commander, Gerard LeDuc, of this Legion Post, I feel grateful to people who give of their time for our community.
