Harvest Supper
Celebrates Kelley Corner School Renovation Project
Neighbors and friends are invited to a pot luck Harvest
Supper on Saturday, October 1 to kick off a project to preserve the
Kelley Corner School, Gilmanton’s first one-room school.
Gilmanton neighbors and friends are invited to a pot-luck Harvest
Supper at the Kelley Corner School to learn more about an ambitious
project to renovate Gilmanton’s first one-room schoolhouse, the only
one still owned by the School District. The event begins at 5 pm on
Saturday, October 1 at the school house on Sanborn Hill Road, off NH
Route 129 a half mile from the junction with Route 107. Bring
a dish to share.
The Kelley Corner School was the first school authorized by the Town
in 1787. It is one of two surviving public buildings in Lower
Gilmanton, the first village settled in the Town. (The other is the
First Baptist Church on Route 107, just north of the junction with
Stage Road.) The Lower Gilmanton Community Club has leased the
building from the School District since the late 1940s after schools
in the Town were consolidated and it was no longer used as a school.
Since then it has been used as a meeting place and for neighborhood
events such as the Harvest Supper and educational visits by school
classes.
Significant maintenance was accomplished in 2008 when the school was
listed on the NH Register of Historic Places. The time has now come
for major renovation. With the support of the Gilmanton Historical
Society, the Community Club has applied for two grants and has
received one from the “Mooseplate” fund. An application from
the State Land and Community Heritage Investment Program (LCHIP) is
pending.
Grants alone cannot
complete the project. Public support is essential. The Harvest
Supper will kick off the campaign to save this iconic building for
future generations to use and to understand the history of their
community.

Many people have
heard of the term “REIKI” because this treatment is now available in
many hospitals and has even been discussed on the Oprah show.
Actually, REIKI is an ancient energy healing method. REIKI is used
to heal physical, emotional and spiritual issues. It allows the body
to re-establish its own natural balance by restoring order to the
body, clearing energy blockages and detoxifying our physical
systems.
You will learn from Carol Wallace, a Reiki Master Teacher, to
perform Reiki to bring balance to the mind, body and spirit for
yourself and others. After attending the REIKI I class, you can
treat yourself and your FAMILY; after attending the REIKI II class
you can perform distance healings and develop your own
practice*. It is important to realize that the REIKI process is used
in conjunction with and complements traditional medicine.
