Laconia
Academy Offers Diploma Courses
For The
Winter Semester 2016
Laconia Academy is the adult evening high school diploma program in
the Lakes Region. “This program provides adults with a “second
chance” to earn a high school diploma,” states Mrs. Peggy Selig,
Program Director.
Anyone interested in enrolling for the
WINTER SEMESTER 2016 or learning more about the program is urged to
call 524-5712 or stop into the Laconia Adult Education Office
located in Room #805 at Laconia High School.
The Winter Semester 2016 classes start the
week of January 11 – 14, 2016. The following courses will be
offered: Applied Math, Science & Substance Abuse, 1930’s American
Writers, Chemistry & Lab, U.S. History, Human Biology & Lab,
Economics, Pre-Algebra, Anger & Stress Management, Short Story
Tales, Algebra I, and Academy Math & Reading.
Laconia Academy also enables In-School
Youth, enrolled in day high school programs, to take courses at
night if they have failed classes during the day. With the
principal’s permission, any In-School Youth may enroll at Laconia
Academy. This cooperation with local area high schools helps prevent
In-School Youths from dropping out of high school or having to
repeat their senior year.
Students attending Laconia Academy can
earn high school diploma credits in several different ways. Credit
is given for previous high school credits earned and life
experiences such as military service, work experience,
apprenticeship training, correspondence courses, Certificate
Programs and homemaking. Credits are earned by passing courses at
Laconia Academy. Laconia Academy is also approved for those eligible
for V.A. benefits.
One vital piece of paper needed at the
time of enrollment is a copy of one’s high school transcript from
the last high school attended. It is necessary in order to transfer
those previously earned high school credits to one’s current record
at Laconia Academy.
Bank of New Hampshire has established
limited scholarship help for those students demonstrating financial
need living in Laconia, Gilford, Meredith, Center Harbor, Plymouth,
Bristol and Moultonborough. This scholarship help will enable
students to return to school at night and complete their high school
education.
The New Hampshire Charitable Foundation through the Adult Success
Program Grant (ASP) and the ALTRUSA Club of the Lakes Region have
also provided very limited scholarship help depending on real
demonstrated financial need. Statistics show that one out of four
adults in New Hampshire does not have a high school diploma.
You are not alone. 1,277 Lakes Region area adults have earned their
high school diploma through Laconia Academy. Everyone knows how
important an education is. Do this for yourself and invest in your
future. Go back to school and earn a high school diploma.
Call 524-5712 to make an appointment or for more information.
Thank You From
The Gilmanton
Food Pantry &
Thrift Shop
The volunteers at the Gilmanton Food Pantry & Thrift Shop extend a
heartfelt and grateful thank you to everyone who made donations
towards the holiday gifts and food baskets. Every single can
or box of food and every toy or item of clothing donated as well as
the many monetary donations both large and small added to our
ability to try to make Thanksgiving and especially Christmas a
special day for some of our less fortunate families.
A special thank you goes out to Jeanne Gallant, Tammy Baiocchetti,
Judy Wagner, and the Gilmanton Women’s Club for their large
donations of food, clothes and toys. If, in our haste,
we did not get anyone’s name and address for a formal thank you
note, please accept our apology and grateful appreciation.
Let us also mention that all donations, all year long, are
appreciated and we wish to acknowledge and thank everyone who
donates at any time of the year. Thank you.
During the month of January, the Gilmanton Thrift Shop will continue
the $7 bag sale. There is still a large assortment
of nice winter clothing. Perhaps with the excitement of
Christmas and the warm fall weather, something may have been
overlooked. Come by and see if you can fill a bag with those
overlooked items.
Non-perishable food items are accepted all year long. The need
does not diminish because the holidays are over. Donations may
be dropped off at the Academy building, the Year Round Library, and
at the Pantry during open hours. Monetary donations may be
brought to the Pantry or mailed to Post Office Box 16,
Gilmanton, N. H. 03237.
We at the Gilmanton Food Pantry wish each and every one a new year
of health, joy, love and friendship. Happy New Year!
