News From The Gilmanton Food Pantry & Thrift Shop

The recent fundraising concert held on August 29th featuring Jim Barnes, NH Balladeer was a success thanks to our sponsors, volunteers and support from the community.

The Gilmanton Food Pantry would like to thank everyone involved for their support in helping to make this a fun and successful community event.

Volunteers Needed

Our Food Pantry is in need of volunteers.  Our volunteers help process food orders for our patrons and sort and display clothing in our Thrift Shop as well as other tasks.  One need not live in Gilmanton to volunteer, however, must be at least 18 years of age and be dependable.  If you or any one that you know can spare as little as two hours, please consider volunteering at the Gilmanton Food Pantry & Thrift Shop located in Gilmanton Iron Works, N.H.

Right now the times that we most need help are Saturday afternoons (noon - 2 p.m.) and Wednesdays (3 p.m. - 7 p.m.).  We only ask volunteers to work two hour shifts.  Two hours a week or two hours a month on a regular basis will be most helpful.  For more information, contact Barbara Reed, Volunteer Coordinator at 556-9449.  We would love to have you join us.

Country Estates of New Hampshire At Gilmanton Historical Society

Gilmanton NHhomes.jpg

Exemplary Country Estates of NH, a program designed to boost the rural economy in the early 20th century, will be presented at the Gilmanton Historical Society on Tuesday, September 22, 7:30 pm.

The final program of the 2015 Gilmanton Historical Society summer season will feature Exemplary Country Estates of New Hampshire, on Tuesday, September 22, 7:30 pm at Old Town Hall in Gilmanton Iron Works.

In the early 20th century the New Hampshire Board of Agriculture launched a program to boost the rural economy and promote tourism through the sale of abandoned farms to summer residents.   Presenter Christina Ashjian focuses attention on some of the great country estates featured in the New Hampshire program between 1902 and 1913.   The program is sponsored by the NH Humanities Council.

The program is free and open to the public; donations to support the work of the Society are gratefully received.   Refreshments and social hour begins at 7 pm.  The program begins promptly at 7:30.

The Society’s Museum, in the basement of Old Town Hall,  is open at 7 pm before the program.  The Museum is open the second and fourth Saturdays, 10 am to noon,  September, through April.
