Tour of Gilmanton Iron Works At Gilmanton Historical Society July 28

Gilmanton giwtour.jpg

The Iron Works Market, still open today, is part of the walking tour of Gilmanton Iron Works with the Gilmanton Historical Society on Tuesday, July 28, beginning at 6 pm.

Join the Gilmanton Historical Society for a walking tour of Gilmanton Iron Works on Tuesday, July 28.  Learn how a huge fire in 1915 forever changed the character of the village and about the buildings that still stand today. Wear good walking shoes and meet outside the Old Town Hall, on NH Route 140 in the Iron Works village, at 6 pm.

The program is free and open to the public; donations to support the work of the Society are gratefully received.

The Society’s Museum, in the basement of Old Town Hall,  is open for summer hours, May to September, every Saturday 10 am to noon except July 4th and Old Home Day (August 8).

The Society’s summer series is presented on the 4th Tuesday of each month, May through September.  History of Lower Gilmanton will be the program on August 26.  The final program of the season, September 22, is Exemplary Country Estates of New Hampshire.  For details pick up a brochure at the Town Office and review the Society’s exhibit on Thomas Cogswell, Gilmanton’s Revolutionary War hero.   Or check the Society’s website, www.historicalsocietiesnh.org/gilmanton.  There is a link on the Town website.

The Gilmanton Historical Society offers a number of publications on the history of the Town.  They are available at all Society programs, at the Town Clerk’s Office, and at the Brick House in Gilmanton Corners.
