Happy 5th Birthday - Gilmanton Year-Round Library!
On September 12th, 2009, the Gilmanton Year-Round Library celebrated
its grand opening with many visitors, most receiving library cards.
Five years later the Library has 1653 card holders and some13,500
items on the shelves. But numbers alone don’t tell the whole story.
In addition to two weekly story time sessions, children’s
programming has grown to include the wildly popular Lego Club and
early release day Afternoon at the Movies. Paper and Popcorn gives
young patrons the opportunity to compare popular movies with the
books they are based upon. The summer reading program continues to
draw more participants every year, with nearly 300 attendees in
programs this past July.
If you enjoy being creative, the Gilmanton Year-Round Library has
many opportunities to learn a craft, hone your skills and share your
knowledge with others, through monthly Crafting for the Clumsy and
children’s Crafternoon sessions. The Library hosts various
community groups who make use of the ample meeting space, including
Magic the Gathering, the Gilmanton Gathers book group and various
scouting troops.
The Library offers the opportunity for patrons to borrow books not
in our collection, at no extra charge, through the state-wide
interlibrary loan system. The Library will soon be providing the
much anticipated eBooks!
The Gilmanton Year-Round Library is proud of the amazing growth in
the past five years in both the number of patrons using the library
as well as the increase in the services and programming offered.
What we are most grateful for, however, what gives us the most joy,
is the connections we have been privileged to facilitate.
Preschoolers have formed first friendships during story time, while
their families have found support from one another. Families with
young children meet up on dreary winter days to play and escape the
dreaded cabin fever. Teens have a safe place to hang out with one
another during our monthly Friday teen nights. The Gilmanton
Year-Round Library is often the first stop for people who are new to
town. Friends who meet by chance stay long after their books are
checked out, catching up in our cozy community living-room
atmosphere.
The Library staff enjoys meeting members of our community and it’s
not long before new patrons become dear friends. Stop in soon, say
hello and check us out!
