Lower Gilmanton’s First Baptist Church’s Annual Work Bee
The Lower Gilmanton First Baptist Church is having their Annual Work
Bee on Saturday, June 7, 2014 starting at 9:00 AM. Depending on the
weather, general outside or inside work are the projects being
considered – scrape and paint the back of the Church and start
painting the Church floor. Please bring paint brushes, trays and
work up an appetite. Also bring a favorite dish to share at lunch
time with friends.
Our Annual Meeting will be reconvened during the day to discuss any
issues needing to be considered, such as the summer Church services’
schedule.
Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) has announced that William
Hunt of Gilmanton, N.H., a sophomore majoring in robotics
engineering, was named to the university’s Dean’s List for academic
excellence for the Spring 2014 semester.
Congratulations, William!
FIZZ! BOOM! READ!
Join us for terrific, scientific and mysterious Summer Reading
Programs at the Gilmanton Year-Round Library! Summer Reading
programs begin June 24th and children from birth to age 14 are
encouraged to attend. Early Registration runs June 17 – 20, 2014.
Although registrations will be accepted at any time during the
program, children who sign up during early registration will receive
a coupon for a free ice cream cone, courtesy of the Iron Works
Market.
Mark your calendar for Tuesday, July 1st at 6 PM when the library
will be hosting magician Peter Boie, courtesy of a Kids, Books and
the Arts grant. Funding for the Kids, Books and the Arts event is
provided by the Jack and Dorothy Bryne Foundation, CHILIS, Cogswell
Benevolent Trust, and is supported in part by a grant from the NH
State Council on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts as
well as funds administered by the NH State Library and provided by
the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
Every Tuesday evening at 6 PM there will be a Family Fun Event when
children and their caregivers can explore different themes. You can
“Play with Your Food,” discover the science behind Wild Weather, and
learn about Peculiar Animal Partners and Fascinating Flora.
“Read to Me Story Time” happens Wednesday mornings at 10:30 AM. We
will read several stories on that week’s theme and children will
make a craft to take home.
Thursday of Discovery, Thursdays at 1:30, is experiment time with
lots of audience participation! Have you ever wondered why you have
two eyes instead of one, or how the machines you use every day work?
What’s the difference between a tint, a shade and a tone?
Come to ThursDays of Discovery and find out! We’ll also hold a
session called Grossology 101. You guessed it – the science behind
everything gross!
Stop by on “Find Out Fun Facts Fridays” and use library resources to
answer the question of the day and pick up new puzzle pages to take
home.
For every event a child participates in, he or she will earn entries
into a raffle for great prizes, drawn at the conclusion of the
program on July 24th, after our “Solid, Liquid or Gas?” Ice Cream
Party and Wrap Up. Small prizes will also be awarded weekly for
completing and returning reading logs.
Don’t worry we haven’t left the grownups out! There’s been a murder
in sleepy little Gilmanton! Stop by and join the forensics team to
figure out who witnessed the crime, who committed the crime, and
where in town it happened - and which Librarian met her untimely
death! All correct solutions enter the “detective” into a grand
prize drawing! This will begin 6/24/14. When you stop by to start
solving the mystery, don’t forget to grab a calendar - this summer
is FULL of exciting programs too!
Spark your imagination and have a blast at the Gilmanton Year-Round
Library!
Gubernatorial Candidate Walt Havenstein Of Alton Guest Speaker At
Next Meeting Of BARC’G
The Barnstead-Alton-Gilmanton Republican Committee (BARC’G) has
announced their next monthly meeting will be held on Tuesday, June
10 at 6:30 pm. The meeting will be held at J.J. Goodwin’s Restaurant
(upstairs dining room), 769 Suncook Valley Highway (Rt 28), in
Center Barnstead.
In an on-going series of “Meet the Candidates Nights”, the next
meeting of BARC’G will feature Gubernatorial Candidate Walt
Havenstein of Alton. Walt, a charter member of BARC’G and the
former CEO of BAE Systems in Nashua, will share his reasons for
running for Governor, and his position on the issues that are front
and center here in New Hampshire. Before taking on Governor Hassan
in the November election, Walt will first have to prevail in the
September 9 Republican Primary versus Andrew Hemingway who spoke a
couple of months ago at BARC’G. So, here’s your
opportunity to learn why Walt feels he’s the best candidate to
challenge Hassan.
BARC’G meetings are open to Republicans and like-minded Independents
from Alton, Barnstead, and Gilmanton, and any other towns in New
Hampshire. The meetings offer a great opportunity to renew old
friendships with those who have been away for the winter, to meet
new people, and to question the candidates, all in an atmosphere of
grass roots politicking at its best!
Per the usual meeting format, if you’re interested in having dinner
(at your option) or wish to socialize before the meeting, plan to
arrive as early as 5:30pm.
The Committee reminds you to bring a non-perishable food item (cans
of soup, tuna fish, etc, etc) to the meeting for distribution to
local food pantries.
For more information, please send an email to
[email protected] or

Letter To The Editor
To the Editor:
At the Town Election in March, the voters approved an article
providing for a lease/purchase of a new fire engine. Now we must
again ratify this article because there was a procedural error in
the order of the article in the warrant.
Please vote again on June 10, 2014 or vote by
absentee ballot. Voting is at the Academy Building from 7AM to 7PM.
The ballots are now available so you may go to the Town Clerk’s
office and vote at any time that the office is open. Request an
absentee ballot by going to
www.gilmantonnh.org or contact the Town
Clerk at 267-6726. Please make sure this procedural error does not
interfere with public safety.
