Letter To The Editor

On September 9, 2014 we will vote on the many candidates who have been campaigning all through the summer for the U. S. Senate and Congress, for the State House and State Senate, and for many local offices, such as County Commissioner, etc.  This is called the Primary Election.

Before we can vote in the Primary Election we have to select which party we want to vote with because there is a Democrat ballot and a Republican ballot.  You can only select one.  So here is a bit of important information.

If you wish to change the party you are now registered with, you have until June 3, 2014 to do so with the Supervisors of the Checklist.

For instance, you may not come to the Primary Election as a registered Democrat and ask for a Republican ballot.  You must declare yourself a Republican or Democrat or Undeclared no later than June 3rd.

The only exception to this rule is if you are now registered as Undeclared.  Before checking in with the Ballot Inspectors to vote, you must choose to vote as either a Republican or Democrat by going to the Supervisors of the Checklist first.  However, after you have voted, you may revert to Undeclared status by returning to the Supervisors of the Checklist before you leave the polls.  If you do not choose to revert to Undeclared, you will remain with the party you have selected.

In November, at the General Election, this isn’t the case.  You will receive one ballot.  There will be opposing Democrats and Republicans on that ballot.  No matter which party you are registered with you may vote for anyone on the ballot.  Write in candidates are allowed on all ballots.

See you at the polls.

Kenneth Norman Nutter

Kenneth Norman Nutter, 88, of 45 Drummer Trail, died at his home on Wednesday, May 7, 2014.

Ken was born on June 1, 1925 in Laconia, N. H., the son of the late Clyde and Doris (Springer) Nutter.    Many will remember Ken as a resident and business owner in Gilmanton before moving to Laconia twenty-nine years ago and for many years he spent winters at his Naples, Florida home.

He was a 1943 graduate of Laconia High School, attended Iowa State, and proudly served in the U. S. Navy during WWII.  Ken also founded Ken Nutter Construction, which he served as owner and operator for thirty-five years before retiring in 1984.  In retirement he created two major housing developments and continued to be an active partner in a Weirs Beach campground until it was sold in 2007.  In Ken’s spare time he lovingly “tended to” his Gilmanton property until his health declined in October of 2013.

Ken was also a member of  the Laconia Lodge of  Elks #876, a member of the Veterans of  Foreign Wars Laconia Post #1670 and a lifetime member of the Laconia Country Club.

He is survived by his wife of almost 67 years, Ethelyn “Lynn” (Jones) Nutter of Laconia, two sons, Bill Nutter and his wife Cindy, Bob Nutter and his wife Fay, six grandchildren, Craig Nutter and his wife Melissa, Jillian Bowes and her husband Ryan, Jennifer Pilarz and her husband Patrick, Chris Nutter and his wife Dawn, Kim Perron and her husband Adam and Amy Burke and her husband Gary; eleven great grandchildren; two sisters, Thelma Varhach and Janice Paletta and her husband Joe; four nieces; two nephews and many cousins.  In addition to his parents, Ken was predeceased by his stepfather Harry Bowdoin, and an infant son, Steven Bradley Nutter.

There will be no calling hours.  Per Ken’s wishes, a graveside service was held at the family plot at Smith Meeting House Cemetery, Meeting House Road, Gilmanton, N.H. on Saturday, May 17, 2014.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial donations be made to the Gilmanton Community Church, PO Box 6, Gilmanton IW, NH 03837, to Gilmanton Historical Society, PO Box 236, Gilmanton, NH 03237, or to Smith Meeting House Cemetery, 604 Meeting House Road, Gilmanton I.W., NH 03837.

Wilkinson-Beane-Simoneau-Paquette Funeral & Cremation Services, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, N.H. is assisting the family with the arrangements.  For more information and to view an online memorial go to www.wilkinsonbeane.com.
