Nichols College in Dudley, Massachusetts has announced the Dean’s
List for the fall semester of 2013. Congratulations to Riley
Tebbetts from Gilmanton Iron Works, who achieved Dean’s High Honors.
The Dean’s List gives recognition to those students who achieve high
grades during a single semester. In order to be included in the
Dean’s List, a student must maintain a minimum grade point average
of 3.2 for at least 12 credit-hours and receive no grade below a C+
during the semester.
A student who earns a grade point average of 3.6 or higher is
awarded Dean’s High Honors.
Why It Matters
Stay Connected at the Gilmanton Year-Round Library
We all know that seniors can often live in isolation – this is
especially true in the winter months. Happily, the Gilmanton
Year-Round Library recognizes this and ensures that the Library has
plenty to keep senior citizens connected and engaged. In today’s
world it is helpful to seniors to have access to family and friends
who may live a distance away. The Library has Internet access so
people can stay connected. The Library also offers ancestry.com, a
popular program for many adults. The librarian is available to offer
assistance to those who may need to learn some aspects of computers.
On the fourth Monday of each month, a movie is shown
at 1: OO pm. It is a great opportunity to enjoy a new movie or an
old classic with neighbors and friends right here in town. A weekly
craft group meets on Tuesday afternoons. Bring your most recent
project to work on and share ideas with other crafters. Other
programs are held throughout the year – just call the Library at
364-2400, go to the website
www.gyrla.org or receive the monthly
e-newsletter to keep informed of upcoming events.
Stop by the Library to read the newspaper, check out a new book or
movie, or chat with neighbors. It is the library’s goal to offer
programming and services to meet the needs of all our community
members. If there is a program or activity you would like to have
available, contact the Library – new ideas are always welcome.

Supporting Karen Testerman for US Senate
I am supporting Karen Testerman for the office of US Senate to
replace Jeanne Shaheen. After getting to know Karen, I have
discovered that she shares the same values that I do. I am
pro-family, pro-constitution, and believe in less government
intrusion in our lives. The most outstanding thing I discovered
about Karen Testerman is her integrity: she means what she says and
says what she means. I can be assured that I will not get the
lip-service I presently receive from Jeanne Shaheen. Karen certainly
won’t vote against my values, and then run into hiding as Jeanne
Shaheen has done.
Karen believes that healthcare is between a patient and the doctor,
and would work to dismantle Obamacare. Like me, Karen believes in a
strong military to protect the American people, as the US
Constitution so plainly defines as the responsibility of the federal
government.
Not only is Karen in favor of correcting the failed policy of Obama
on the economy, she is also in favor of producing good, solid jobs
through energy.
Common Core is an educational disaster and nightmare, and Karen
would fight to remove the “dumbing-down” of our children. She, like
me, believes that the right to defend our freedoms with firearms is
a citizen’s right, not a privilege granted by the federal
government.
Jeanne Shaheen has been an Obama puppet. There is no other
Republican candidate I can see in the race that will stand up and
fight for us, our state, and our nation as I believe Karen will.
Please join with me in making a solid change for New Hampshire by
voting for Karen Testerman for US Senate.

Gilmanton Fire Department Receives Defibrillators From Gilmanton
Fire Association
Chief Hempel (L) receiving defibrillators from
Association
President, Lt. Dennis Comeau.
On January 15, 2014, Association President Lieutenant Dennis Comeau
presented two defibrillators to Chief Paul “Joe” Hempel of the
Gilmanton Fire Department.
The defibrillators, which were purchased by the Association for the
department and will go on one of our engines and our forestry unit.
The funds were raised by our fundraisers, which include the
collection of monies from NASCAR race fans.
“People have been very generous to us over the years” said Dennis
Comeau, “we exist to give back to the Town of Gilmanton and the
Gilmanton Fire Department. These funds were raised and earmarked for
the purchase of equipment that would benefit both the department and
the community as well.”
Chief Hempel said that the equipment was a great gift and they have
already been mounted in the trucks. “Anything that we can get to
help us do our jobs helps us tremendously.
The fact that these expensive machines are donated makes it even
better. The members of the Association give a lot to the Town and
the Department and a lot of what they do goes unnoticed. The
equipment that the Association buys or donations that they give,
comes strictly from monies raised through donations and not tax
money.
The Association is made up of firefighters and medical personnel of
the Gilmanton Fire Department.

Gilmanton Landowners,
Effective January 1, 2014 a foundation only permit is available. A
public hearing was held on December 2,2013 and the Board of
Selectmen approved it. The fee is $100.00 and covers inspections
and administrative costs.
By offering a foundation only permit a landowner can excavate and
install an approved septic system before framing begins. Prior to
building a home the foundation will be inspected for integrity.
Should you decided to go this route, please remember that exposed
ground can produce a lot of frost... and frost can damage a poorly
drained foundation. Speak to your excavating contractor for advice.
With the foundation in place an operational inspection can be made
by the State of New Hampshire environmental services. A septic
design is only valid for four years.
Brought to the Selectmen by Selectmen Brett Currier, we all thought
it was a great idea. Get a start on the earthwork before mud
season.
Sincerely,
Don Guarino
