First Congregational Society In Gilmanton Old Home Day Service

In conjunction with the Gilmanton Old Home Day Association, the First Congregational Society in Gilmanton will hold its Old Home Day service on Sunday, August 4, 2013, at 4:00 pm at the Smith Meeting House on Meeting House Road in Gilmanton, NH.

The First Congregational Society is the oldest organized society in the town of Gilmanton. Nestled in rows of maple trees with lush green lawns and a flowering garden, the Smith Meeting House is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Old Home Day service is a long held tradition where we remember those who have gone before us. The sermon for this nondenominational service is always of interesting subject matter, and we encourage those who have not visited us before to attend.  After the service we will serve refreshments in the meeting room downstairs which is naturally air conditioned and there is plenty of parking.

The Reverend Sidney Lovett of Holderness, NH, will officiate and we will have Harriet Coupal as our organist. For more information call 603-267-8151.

Gilmanton Parks And Recreation News

Submitted By Catherine Lines

Swimming lessons, sponsored by the Gilmanton Parks and Recreation Department, started on July 8 at Crystal Lake Park. They ran each morning from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm for two weeks. During the second week an afternoon session from 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm was offered on a trial basis this year in an effort to accommodate more families. We had 70 children from the ages of 5-12 participate. The swimmers were taught how to control their breath, float, tread water, scull, change positions while floating, the crawl with breathing, the elementary backstroke and breaststroke, back crawl and sidestroke, water safety, jumping and diving in deep water. Everyone had a great time and All 70 Children Are Swimmers!

Even though our final day as rainy, it was spent playing some fun water games with shaving cream, bubbles and a waterfall noodle limbo. The swimmers were given certificates for their participation and some yummy goodies were shared. A big thank you to all of the parents and grandparents who made sure that their swimmers attended each day and supported them with positive comments and cheers! Thank you to the town for supporting this important program! Keep practicing and I hope to see you all next summer!
