GCC Food Pantry And Thrift Shop News
Mother’s Day is just a few short weeks away. In honor of mothers we
will be beginning a new sale at the Thrift Shop on Monday, April
23rd. We will have 50% off all children’s clothing and
accessories, from infant up to juniors. We will also be offering 50%
off all women’s clothing and accessories. Come in and check
out all of the beautiful new spring and summer clothing at the
Thrift Shop.
Prom and formal dresses will not be included in the sale, but we do
still have a selection of lovely dresses which are priced very
reasonably. So stop on by and grab some great bargains for mom and
the kids.
The Gilmanton Community Church Men’s Fellowship group has been busy
making picnic tables to sell at the pantry. The proceeds from the
sale of the tables will be split between the food pantry and the
church. The tables are very sturdy and well constructed of pressure
treated lumber. The cost is $115.00 for a 6’ and $135 for an 8’
table. Delivery can be arranged. Stop by and check them out.
The Food Pantry will be teaming up with the Gilmanton Girl Scout
troop to construct and plant a community garden at the food pantry
to provide fresh produce for our clients at the pantry. The troop
will be looking for donations of building materials, mulch, loam,
plants and some other garden items. If you are interested in helping
out with this project, please call Jane at 364-7437 or Beth at
267-1934 for more information or stop in at the GCC Food Pantry and
Thrift Shop during our business hours.
Remember, we always welcome donations. If you have a prom or special
occasion dress and accessories to donate please think of the GCC
Thrift Shop. Items can be brought to the GCC Food Pantry and Thrift
Shop during our business hours. Please do not leave donations
outside the door or put them in the big yellow box. We accept
clothing and wearable accessories only.
Food items for donation can be brought to the Food Pantry or left in
one of our collection boxes. Boxes are located at the Gilmanton
School, Iron Works Market, Academy Building and at the Year Round
Library.
The GCC Food Pantry Board wishes to say thank you to everyone who
helped out with our Easter food baskets and Bunny basket program. We
thank you for your continued support of the programs at the Food
Pantry. If you wish to make a monetary donation you can mail it to
GCC Food Pantry and Thrift Shop, PO Box 6, Gilmanton IW, NH 03837.
We are located on Route 140 in Gilmanton Iron Works, across from the
Iron Works Market. We are open on Monday 9 am - 1 pm, Wednesday 3 pm
- 7 pm, and Saturday 10 am - 2 pm. Parking is located in the
Gilmanton Community Church parking lot just west of the shop.
Letter To The Editor
Gilmanton School
Superintendent
At the School Board meeting on Tuesday, April 10, 2012 an action
item was added to the agenda at the last minute by the
Superintendent: his new contract.
The Superintendent, beginning next school year which starts July 1,
will be working only 2 days a week in Gilmanton. He also signed a
one-year interim contract with Barnstead to work there 2 days a
week.
The School Board actually voted to increase his salary for this
shortened work week. Had they kept him at his current pay rate he
would have been paid $43,600 but instead he will be paid $60,000
plus benefits that typically are paid to full-time employees not
part-time employees.
This arrangement is quite unusual. The Town of Barnstead will pay
him $64,000 per year. Additionally the School Board agreed, on a
vote of 3-2, to give the Superintendent a new two-year contract.
This information has been disclosed now that the budget season and
District Meeting have been completed. It is reasonable to think that
this was known to the Administration and Board for quite some time
thus making the budget process a farce.
If the Superintendent is available only two days a week, perhaps the
SAU office should be open only two days a week or perhaps we don’t
need an SAU at all.
If the School Board and administration are serious about saving
money, perhaps they should consider this as an option.
Sincerely,
Joanne Gianni
