GCC Food Pantry And Thrift Shop News

Well, Christmas is right around the corner so what do you say we celebrate this joyous season by having a sale on items with Red and Green barbs. Any item in the Thrift Shop with a Red or Green barb will be 50% Off. And since it is inevitable that winter and the cold weather will soon arrive, we will also be taking 50% Off all Winter jackets, coats and vests and all heavy sweatshirts and fleece. Wow, how’s that for a sale!

We have many fabulous outerwear items for the entire family. Come on in and check us out. We have put out in the Thrift Shop a wonderful array of holiday dresses, sweaters and tops. We have some very beautiful sweaters as well as a good selection of sweaters for that "Ugly Christmas Sweater" party you might be going to. The Thrift Shop would also like to let everyone know that we are now selling Gift Certificates. They can be purchased at the shop and can be for any amount you choose.

We are continuing to collect food items for the Christmas food baskets. Some items needed are coffee, cereal, bottled juice, mayonnaise, tuna, breakfast muffin mix, cake mixes and frosting, brownie mix, sugar, canned fruit, pasta sauce and pasta. Items can be dropped off at the Pantry during our business hours or left in one of the collection boxes located at the Gilmanton School, Iron Works Market, Year Round Library or the Academy Building. If you wish to make a monetary donation you can mail it to GCC Food Pantry and Thrift Shop, PO Box 6, Gilmanton IW, NH 03837.

We still have a number of children in our "Adopt-a-Child" program who need to be adopted. If you would like to adopt a child or two you can contact Katie McEntee at the Gilmanton School or Jane Sisti at 364-7437. We hope that you will consider helping a child in need by participating in this program.

We are located on Route 140 in Gilmanton Iron Works, across from the Iron Works Market. We are open on Monday 9am – 1pm, Wednesday 3pm – 7pm, and Saturday 10am – 2pm. Parking is located in the Gilmanton Community Church parking lot just west of the shop.

The GCC Food Pantry and Thrift Shop will be closing at 12 noon on Saturday, December 24th so that our volunteers can be with their families. We will also be closed on Monday, December 26th. The pantry and shop will be open again beginning Wednesday, December 28th.

New England Brass Quintet To Return For Church Service

On Sunday, December 18, 2011, at 2:00 pm the First Congregational Society will hold a special Christmas church service at Smith Meeting House. The service is non-denominational and all are invited. Bring your family and friends to enjoy the Christmas decorations, ample parking is provided.

The New England Brass Quintet, led by Ben Stadelmann, is shown above rehearsing. They will play Christmas hymns during the service. All study music at the University of New Hampshire.

The service will be conducted by the Reverend Sidney Lovett of Holderness, NH. We are pleased to have Harriet Coupal as our guest organist, who will play the prelude and accompany the Quintet during Christmas hymns.

Everyone is invited to the Meeting Room after the service for refreshments and a performance of traditional Christmas songs by the Brass Quintet.

This is the last of the series of services until next Spring. Smith Meeting House, which has been fully restored, is on the National Register of Historic Places.

Proceeds from the Christmas service collection will be donated to the Gilmanton Supplemental Fund, a local charitable foundation dedicated to helping those in need.
