More about Frank Jones, a well known brewer in New
Hampshire, at Gilmanton Historical Society on Tuesday, August 24th.
The Gilmanton Historical Society’s summer program series continues on
Tuesday, August 24th with a program on Brewing Beer in New Hampshire. The
program begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Gilmanton Academy (Town Offices) building
in Gilmanton Corners. A social hour with refreshments starts at 7 p.m.
Glenn Knoblock explores the history of New Hampshire’s beer and ale
brewing industry from Colonial days, when it was home and tavern-based, to
today’s modern breweries and brew pubs. Unusual and rare photos and
advertisements document the changing industry and the state’s earliest
brewers. Illustrations present evidence of society’s changing attitudes
towards beer and alcohol consumption over the years. Anticipating an
oft-asked question: Sorry, no beer samples at this lecture.
The program is sponsored in part by the NH Humanities Council. The
public is welcome and there is no charge.
The final program of the summer on September 28, Documentary Photographs
of the 1930s, complements July’s Gilmanton history program with a slide
presentation by Martin Fox featuring photographs taken during the Great
Depression for the Farm Security Administration.
