laude with a bachelor of science degree in Recreation Management and Policy
- Program Administration from the University of New Hampshire in Durham.

and School Staff, for working so hard to make my retirement celebration so
wonderful! My school community will always be a very special part of who I
am and what I love. Your kindness and support through my years at Gilmanton
School will be remembered by the special things we have accomplished.
To my former students, students, parents, and community members, please
accept my sincere thanks for the cards, kind words, and gifts given to me at
my special retirement event! I am still overwhelmed by your thoughtfulness

Splash Into Fun This Summer At The Gilmanton Year Round Library!
“Make A Splash - READ!” is our summer reading program this
summer. This seven week program will begin Tuesday, July 6th.
We will have lots of fun water themed activities going on, including
Outdoor Picnic Story Times, Writing Workshops, Yoga, Book Clubs and Music!
We are also encouraging children to “fill” up the Children’s Room with
“TITLE” waves!

Expanded library hours will begin July 1: Tuesday and
Thursday the Library will be open from 1 to 7 p.m.; Wednesday and Friday
from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Local Middle Level Students Receive Prestigious Awards
Elizabeth Davies and Nicholas Longlitz Scholar Leader students at
Gilmanton School in Gilmanton, NH, were recently honored at the 11th Annual
Scholar Leader Awards Banquet on June 3, 2010, at the Center of New
Hampshire in Manchester, NH. The students were presented with an award. The
criteria included demonstrating academic initiative and scholarship,
providing service to classmates and school, exemplifying positive attitudes
and demonstrating leadership in the classroom and school activities.
Nearly 350 students, educators, and parents attended this banquet to
celebrate the achievements of the middle level students who are
representative of the many fine young adolescents in all middle level
schools in the State of New Hampshire. Also in attendance were Governor John
Lynch, Dr. Virginia Barry, NH Commissioner of Education; John Lyons, Esq.,
State Board of Education. Dr. Barry was the evening’s keynote speaker. 68
eighth grade students from 34 schools were honored at the Eleventh Annual
Middle Level Scholar Leader Awards Banquet.
The event was organized by
the New Hampshire Association for Middle Level Education (NHAMLE) and the
New England League of Middle Schools (NELMS) with supporting from Lifetouch
National School Studios.
Dr. Robert Spear, Acting Executive Director of
NELMS, praised the students for the willingness to help others and for
choosing excellence in their personal and school lives. He acknowledged the
many contributions of the parents for creating environments that promote
good citizenship and scholarship. Spear noted that “when students, parents,
and schools work together, powerful learning takes place.”
Obituaries
Robert L. Potter, Sr.
Robert L. Potter, Sr., 79, of Gilmanton Iron
Works, died May 28, 2010, at home after a battle with cancer. He was
the son of the late George D. and Mildred (Page) Potter.
Bob was on the
Gilmanton Budget Committee for 50 years. He served time with the
Snowmobile Club, N.H. Farm Bureau, Farm Museum, ACP of Belknap County,
Sexton of Smith Meeting House Cemetery, School Building Comm. and
many other committees. He plowed snow for the Town for 58 years and
dragged roads with horses and farm tractors. He volunteered on too
many projects to list.
Bob loved his farm, with all the beef cattle,
which had been in the Potter Family since 1781. He also did construction
work and lumbering. He loved all his family so very much.
Bob is
survived by his wife, Nancy (Sanborn) Potter, of 49 years minus 13 days;
daughters and sons-in-law, Joan and Tim Riel and Janet and Normand Breton;
sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Melissa Potter, Jr. and Richard
Potter, all of Gilmanton Iron Works; eight grandchildren; one
great-grandchild; three sisters, Dorothy Littlefield and Bernice Potter of
Gilmanton I.W. and Ruth Chase of Pembroke.
In addition to his
parents, Bob was predeceased by two sisters, Virginia Geddes and Florence
Welch.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 19, 2010, at
2:00PM at the First Baptist Church, Rte 107, Gilmanton.
After the
service, everyone is welcome to join at the Potter Farm for a celebration of
Bob’s life.
A private family burial will take place later.
