Would you consider paying 6 cents more a day in taxes, to enhance your
family or neighbor’s education or life?
Now, for approximately 6 cents more a day (on your annual tax bill), any
Gilmanton household/resident can, at no additional charge:
- access the latest technology and resource world-wide information
on-line.
- find a quiet place to work, research a new job or do school
work.
- hold a meeting/event of their favorite group/organization(up to
60 people).
- borrow the latest best sellers and movies.
- participate
in ongoing family/kid friendly, educational events.
- read the current
daily/weekly/monthly publications.
- enjoy a cup of tea and homemade
baked goods.
Thank goodness the cost for the land, building and contents (valued at 1.3
Million+ dollars, wow!) have been paid for and will continue to be supported
with volunteer sweat, grant monies, fundraisers, in-kind and monetary
donations by the many, many library supporters/sponsors. Thank you again, by
the way.
At Town Meeting in March, your simple “yes” or “no” vote will
decide...Is this 1.3 Million+ dollar gift worth paying 6 cents more a day to
keep open for you, your family or your neighbor? For pennies a day, we hope
you’ll vote “yes.”
We consider this year-round library a very generous gift to our current
community and for generations to come. We hope you’ll celebrate with us,
this new and wonderful Gilmanton public asset, by considering a “yes” vote
to approve requested 2010 operating funds (estimated annual tax is $20. for
a property valued at $200,000) for our new public library.
By voting “yes,” this inspiring new resource will remain open for ALL our
residents throughout the coming year.

Generosity Of Community Is Overwhelming
The Gilmanton Community
Church Food Pantry and the Gilmanton School would like to extend a great big
thank you to the members of the Gilmanton Community Church, the
organizations, the individuals, the families and the employees of the town
and the school, who donated to the Christmas food baskets and the
Adopt-a-Child gift program in 2009. The enormous outpouring of support for
this program just seems to grow year after year. This program began close to
20 years ago and started with the Gilmanton School nurse, Betty Lines,
helping out 1 or 2 families in our community. This year, with the needs of
many much greater, your overwhelming generosity enabled us to provide
Christmas gifts and clothing and outerwear for over 50 children and their
families.
Again, thank you so much for your support of this program and
of the Food Pantry, and we hope that you will continue to support us and
help those in your community in need.

The Gilmanton Year Round Library Association has a deep
appreciation for computer technology .....
To be specific ..... the
delete button. We all know how that works. You make a mistake while working
on your computer, you simply reach up and hit the delete button. Problem
solved. Now you can start over. Unfortunately, for members of the Gilmanton
Year Round Library Association, there is no such button in life. If you make
a mistake, you need to be responsible for it. Accountable. You can’t just
.... delete it.
In January of last year it was disclosed that the
Association’s original recruitment form, lying buried on their website,
revealed that they intended to raise an endowment to operate their private
library, once constructed. This was their communicated goal by which they
solicited donations, volunteers, and the help of fundraisers. It clearly
stated that monies raised would go first to the construction and then, to
build an operating endowment. To many in Gilmanton, the disclosure of this
document reaffirmed the belief that the Association had allowed taxpayers,
original donors, volunteers and fundraisers to be misled, misled into
believing something that wasn’t true: that the Association would not burden
the town with its private library initiative..... ever.
When I was
personally made aware of this document, I and many others needed no further
proof that in spite of the Association’s chorus of denials, they had indeed
“pledged or promised” not to come to the town for operating costs. That
document was damaging .......... So, for the Association, what to do?
Delete it, of course. Knowing that this document revealed the truth, the
Association simply, well .... reached up, and hit the delete button. It’s
now gone from their website. Ahhh .... the wonders of computer technology.
