Gilmanton Community Church Annual Pantry Walk
Submitted By Mary Morse
The Pantry Walk of the Gilmanton Community Church was started several
years ago by the “Mission Team” as one way to gather food for the Food
Pantry. The project was suggested by Carol Allen. At that time, the food was
collected for the Alton Food Pantry, but now the church manages a Food
Pantry here in Gilmanton.
The Sunday School children color and cut out pictures of food items and
hang the pictures on a tree in the back of the church. People wishing to
walk pick up a picture or two from the tree and seek sponsors to bring an
item of that food for every mile their walker walks.
The walk starts at 2 p.m., Sunday, October 4th and goes about 4 miles
from Smith Meeting House, down the Stone Road and along Old Stage Road to
Gilmanton Iron Works to the Church. The walk ends at 4 p.m., with a
delicious pasta supper at the church.
Ralph Lavin will be driving around to pick up walkers who don’t want to
hike the entire four miles.
The supper is free to the walkers. For all others, donations are
welcome. Remember the date, October 4th, 2 p.m.

Gilmanton Community Church Food Pantry Grows
The Gilmanton Community
Church Food pantry is expanding, moving and adding a thrift shop. What a
great JOY! Through the generosity of our ever supportive church family, the
church has recently purchased the old fire station building located in the
Iron Works on Route 140 and we will be converting this historic building
into the GCC Food Pantry and Thrift Shop. We are extremely blessed to be
able to put into action the church’s mission statement through this most
wonderful and needed community outreach program.
But there is much to be
done before we can move our food pantry and open in the new building with
the addition of the thrift shop. We have much “sprucing up” to do in and
around the building. There is general cleaning, painting, raking and brush
clearing, but we also need to do some small electrical work,
carpentry/framing and tree removal. Also, due to the limited, basically none
existent parking at the new building, we need to construct an elevated
walkway between the building and the existing church parking lot next door.
All of this work requires many helping hands, but it also requires funds,
time, and services. It is also the commitment of the Gilmanton Community
Church Food Pantry committee to replenish the funds that the church “dipped”
into to purchase the building. These funds were the church’s “rainy day”
monies for projects and upkeep of our church buildings and our fellowship
house.
So, we are asking for your help. If you can give of your time,
labor, materials or money to help us with the building renovations or with
the walkway project, it would be greatly appreciated. To do this, you can
contact Jane Sisti at 364-7437. If you would like to replenish the “rainy
day” funds of the church, please mail your contribution, payable to
Gilmanton Community Church, to PO Box 6, Gilmanton Iron Works, NH, 03837 or
call the church office at 364-7891.
And as always, we thank those of you
in the Gilmanton community and beyond who have so generously been supporting
the food pantry and we hope that you will continue to do so and that
more will join you in supporting this most vital basic need in our
community. If you wish to make a donation of food, funds or clothing to the
Pantry or thrift shop, you may do so by calling Jane Sisti, 364-7437; Beth
Lavin, 267-1934; Sharon Barton, 267- 5934; or the church office, 364-7891.
You may also mail a check payable to the Gilmanton Community Church Food
Pantry to PO Box 6, Gilmanton Iron Works, NH 03837.
