Gilmanton Police Department

On Wednesday July 8, 2009 at 9:01 AM, the Gilmanton Fire Departments was dispatched to a reported motor vehicle accident on Route 129 at Rollins Pond.

While responding to the incident an update was received that advised this was a propane truck rolled over into the pond.

At 9:10 AM companies arrived on the scene and confirmed a propane truck had rolled over onto the passenger side in the pond. The driver was checked and was found to be uninjured. The vehicle was checked and found to contain approximately 3000 gallons of propane. The tank appeared intact and not leaking, however due to the hazardous material involved the Central NH Haz Mat Team was requested and sent three personnel to assist with stabilizing the incident. An area covering ˝ mile around the scene was evacuated as a precaution. Route 129 was closed for approximately seven hours and traffic had to be re-routed.

A total of seven hours was spent on the scene off loading the product and extricating the vehicle.

The Gilmanton Fire and Police departments were assisted at the scene by the Alton Fire Department, Loudon Fire Department, Belmont Fire Department, Barnstead Fire Rescue, Barnstead Police, NH State Police, NH Department of Environmental Services, NH Department of Transportation.

Gilmanton Corner Public Library

The lucky winners of our July 4th book sale raffle were John O’Maley who won the hand painted bookworm design footstool; April Hackley, the winner of the handmade tiger maple cheeseboard with cheese knife; and Sue Christie, the lucky winner of the signed book, Corgiville Fair by illustrator and author, Tasha Tudor!!!!!

The book sale was a huge success and a big thank you to all the people who donated books. Our next book sale will be on Old Home Day, Saturday, August 15, 2009, on the grounds of Smith Meetinghouse, Meetinghouse Road. Mark your calendar for the celebration of community for 111 years. We are one of the few New Hampshire communities to celebrate a continuous Old Home Day.

Just another reminder that Story telling time is on Wednesday, at 3:30 during July and August. Miss Terry had a great 4th of July theme, flags for everyone, and a story all about the Star Spangle Banner. Miss Terry came wearing red, white and blue keeping with the theme!!!

Gilmanton Farmer’s Market

Well it’s that time of year again for the Gilmanton Farmer’s Market to start up - Just north of Gilmanton Four Corners, a hop up Route 107 at the Town Hall or Academy Building as it is known to locals. The vendors are located right on the lawn, easy to spot every Wednesday from 3 to 6 p.m.   On rainy days, the vendors will be tucked into the Temperance Tavern across the way, with a sign up pointing over there.

If you want local products and foods, then support your local markets. We have fresh baked bread, gluten free items, German goodies, Provincial Palette mustards, fresh flowers, fresh veggies and fruits (locally  grown, as well as some organic), local lamb & beef, free range eggs, homemade fudge, relishes, pickles, herbs and herbal tinctures. We may look small, but we pack a lot into that little flurry of tents.

We are looking for a few great vendors to compliment our current wares.

Please mark your calendars and come visit our market.
