Congratulations to Emily J. Goulet of Epsom who has been selected
for inclusion on the Dean’s List for academic achievement during the
Spring 2015 semester at St. Lawrence University.
Goulet is a member of the Class of 2016, majoring in music and
performance and communication arts. She attended Pembroke Academy.
To be eligible for the Dean’s List, a student must have completed at
least four courses and have an academic average of 3.6 based on a
4.0 scale for the semester.
The Epsom Public Library will be showing the movie “Second Best
Exotic Marigold Hotel” on Tuesday, July 29 at 7:00 PM. Rated PG,
this sequel to “Best Exotic Marigold Hotel” takes place about six
months after the end of the first movie. We meet the same
characters played by Maggie Smith, Judi Dench, Dev Patel and Bill
Nighy as they continue their roles and are joined by Richard Gere.
The fast paced, often crowded streets in India are alive with color
in this bright and lively movie.
Mark your calendars for Monday, August 3 at 7:00 PM when local area
musicians, The Dantes, will entertain with an eclectic mix of music
from Gospel to Blues to Accoustic Rock & Roll.

REMINDER: Don’t miss the second band concert of the season on

Youth Events at the Epsom Public Library include: “Lindsay and her
Puppet Pals,” on Monday, July 27th at 6:30 pm. Join us for this
wonderful program featuring stories with Lindsay’s super-size
puppets!
On Tuesday, July 28th at 2 pm the family movie, “Maya the Bee” rated
G. and our annual “Teddy Bear Picnic” on Tuesday, August 4th at
12:30 pm. Bring a sandwich, your favorite “Teddy” and a blanket.
Join us for stories, songs and a craft all with a “bear” theme.
Drinks and dessert will be provided! Donations are welcome. Sign up

A benefit Dance is being held on Friday, August 7th,
from 7-11 p.m. at the Epsom Elks to help raise money for medical
expenses for Baby Hayden. Hayden was born with Down Syndrome and a
Congenital Heart Condition (full Atrioventricular Canal Defect) that
will require her in the next month or so to have open heart surgery.
Medical expenses add up quickly even for this hard working family.
Please help out this local family in this difficult time. Mike and
Caitlin (Twomey) Shultz would greatly appreciate it. There will be a
DJ, raffles, appetizers and a cash bar. Tickets are $20 each or $35

Valley Artisans July Artisan Of The Month
Artisan
of the month is our long time member Joyce Lemay, a talented
quilter in traditional and machine applique techniques.
Joyce loves celebrating holidays and her theme this month is
“Christmas in July”. It is never too early to think of Christmas!
Joyce has been working on holiday ornaments all year and has new
designs along with old favorites.
She has generously donated for our monthly drawing a patriotic
fabric Santa that will look adorable in your home at holiday time or
all year long.
Joyce also sews seasonal wall hangings, tea towels and cards for all
occasions. Also, her perennial plants from her own garden are
available at the shop.
Joyce welcomes you to visit Valley Artisans to see her items and the
many other crafters items. We have three rooms filled with juried
items from our local artisans.

Epsom Food Pantry
Well, another week has gone by and I will tell you that Girl Scout
Garden is something to behold. Eve and I went out last Saturday
morning and the squashes were just amazing. I do not know what was
in that soil, but I will tell you it was something. Things are
growing like mad. Found a great green pepper also. One of the
scouts, a lovely young lady named Olivia Rondeau, and her Dad were
there to do some work and I had a chance to chat with them and hear
all about the work the girls do.
Needless to say, Saturday’s members had some nice choices of fresh
veggies. At this time a special thanks to the folks of St Stephen’s
church for their generous donation from their table at Pittsfield
Old Home Day. I understand they also give to support to other
pantries in the area. Are we not lucky to have such wonderful
caring people helping us? Also, I got another wonderful donation
from an Epsom family who do this on a regular basis. Thank you one
and all, from all of us.
Also for those of you who donate to the boxes around town, we could
use some canned fruits, mixed or whatever. Canned veggies also
welcome and we can start squirreling away for the upcoming winter.

Thanks again this year to Tom at The Copper House and to Steve and
Christie at Christie’s Antiques and Gifts; these folks are located
on Rt 4 in Epsom, just 3/4 of a mile east of the Epsom Traffic
Circle.
I am thanking these kind folks for taking good care of the empty lot
at the corner of Rt 4 and Black Hall Rd .
Once again, these folks have taken it upon themselves to mow and
keep this lot from becoming an eyesore.

spot’ with tools, equipment & prison volunteers who dug out 10’ x
14’ area a foot deep; Bruce & Linda Blye of Land Dimensions for
Brown Eyed Susan perennial; Concord Regional Senior Citizens
Community Center for bench; NH Master Gardener Assoc for grant
funds; Barbara Rollins of NH Lilac Commission for 3 native lilacs
and 4 Wentworth lilacs whose lineage came directly from England!

Volunteers Katy & Michelle Muise and Dave Paltry made quick work of
planting and top dressing the garden. Special mention to my husband
David who took bench completely apart, replaced rotted wood, bored
new holes for larger bolts, sanded, primed, painted, siliconed areas
prone to water pooling and bitchethaned feet. Says he put 40...50
hours in on “new” bench. I have no reason whatsoever to doubt it.
(But, he is a fisherman.)

Old Allenstown Meetinghouse And Civilian Conservation Corp Museum

You are invited to 150 Deerfield Road, Allenstown, NH to enjoying
visiting two wonderful historic buildings in a beautiful woodland
setting!
The Old Allenstown Meetinghouse, built between 1815 and 1821, served
as the Town’s religious and government center until 1860 when the
church dissolved. Town meetings continued until 1876, and it is
considered the only known surviving, one-story meetinghouse serving
both religious and civic functions since its inception. The Bear
Brook State Park Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) Camp Historic
District is the only surviving Civilian Conservation Corps work camp
in New Hampshire. The camp’s facilities have been adaptively reused
to provide space for park administration and a small museum. It is
also believed to be one of the few relatively intact CCC camps in
the nation.
A presentation about the Meetinghouse will begin at 10:00am. Rain
or shine, the Suncook Senior Center will serve a picnic lunch at
11:30am. Both building are handicapped accessible, and bathrooms
are available at the Conservation Corp Museum. To make a luncheon

Obituaries
Veryl (Harper) Brissette
Allenstown – Mrs. Veryl Frances (Harper) Brissette, 78, of Pine
Acres Road, died Wednesday, July 8, 2015, at her daughter’s home in
Epsom after a period of failing health.
Born in Everett, MA on August 9, 1936, Veryl was the daughter of the
late Frank and Gladys (Thomas) Harper. As a homemaker, she devoted
herself to taking care of her family and enjoyed knitting when she
had the time. She was also an avid seamstress for her family and her
surrounding community.
Veryl was the widow of Francis (Frank) Brissette, Sr. who died in
2013 and to whom she had been married 57 years. She is survived by 7
children, Dawna Baxter of Allenstown, Francis “Joe” Brissette of
Concord, Debra Fleury of Laconia, Diane Homer of Epsom, Denise Halen
of Allenstown, Jeannine Berube of Pembroke, and David Brissette of
Somerville, MA; 19 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; a brother,
Frank “Tom” Harper of Allenstown; 2 sisters, Lois Rabbit of FL and
Elizabeth Ceriello of NC; and nieces and nephews.
There are no calling hours. A memorial Mass will be celebrated on
Saturday, August 8th at 10:00 AM at St. John the Baptist Church in
Allenstown with burial following in St. John the Baptist Cemetery.

Steve A. Merrill
Epsom – Steve A. Merrill (aka Big Daddy), 59 of Short Falls Road in
Epsom, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, July 14, 2015 at the
Concord Hospital.
Steve was born in East Derry on December 9, 1955 to Curtis and Anita
(Perry) Merrill.
Steve worked for Fort Mountain Trucking in Allenstown as a heavy
equipment mechanic for the past 13 years and had also worked for P K
Lindsay Co. in Deerfield as a compressor assembler.
Steve loved his family more than anything. Any type of fishing was a
close second, especially deep sea fishing. He also enjoyed
gardening, finishing those never-ending yard projects, and visiting
the Great North Woods to look for moose.
Steve is survived by his wife of 27 years, Amy (Robinson) Merrill of
Epsom; his son and daughter-in-law, Steven Merrill and Courtney of
Epsom; two daughters and their husbands, Brandy Cormier and Todd of
Manchester, and Megan Stevens and Dave of Epsom; and three
grandchildren, Benjamin, Brody, and Bailey Merrill. He also leaves
his mother, Anita, of Deerfield; a brother, Brian Merrill and his
wife Tammy of Epsom; two sisters and their husbands, Linda Coyle and
Dan of Northwood, and Susan Peront and Mike of Crouse, NC; and
several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Steve also
held a special place in his heart for his mother-in-law, Caroline
and his sisters-in-law, Debra, Lori, and Jennifer, and their
families.
In addition to his father Curtis, who died in 2010, Steve was
predeceased by a sister, Deborah Merrill, and a nephew, Daniel
Coyle, Jr.
Friends and family were invited to share memories of Steve at a
gathering held on Monday, July 20, at the Still Oaks Funeral &
Memorial Home in Epsom. Services were held Tuesday, July 21, at the
funeral home, followed by burial in the New Rye Cemetery.
