Free Clothing Swap

In an effort to help manage the cost of clothing for our community families, the Epsom Bible Church will be holding a free clothing swap on Saturday, October 4th, from 9-12 noon at 398 Black Hall Road in Epsom.

You may bring donated clothing beginning at 8:30 am. All clothes need to be clean and in good repair, and separated by size and gender. Both adult and children’s clothing are accepted. Clothing will begin to be sorted for donation bins at 11:30, so please come early.

Clothes will be sorted and distributed to tables by the person dropping them off. Once clothes have been sorted and distributed, you are free to begin gathering clothing in the sizes you need. You do not need to make a clothing donation in order to take clothing for you and your family.

Any clothing left at the end of the swap will be delivered to a local charity drop off site. Volunteers for the clothing swap are appreciated. Clothing will begin to be sorted for donation bins at 11:30, so please come early.

We will have coffee and donuts.

Call Joanne Randall at 344-8843 for more information or if you are interested in volunteering.

Epsom Food Pantry

Well we have had another busy week. But before I write about that I want to rectify a mistake I have made on a name.  The name is Wendy Kitson not Kitchen and she has been just wonderful about getting us freezers and I am sorry but it seems in my later years(now) my hearing isn’t all it should be so when chatting with me speak just a little louder. Now on to the good stuff. Wendy got us a second freezer so we are in great shape that way. Also our friends from the Lions Club have donated 50 pounds of potatoes and our next order from the Elks comes Thursday.  We are just so fortunate.. to have such generous supporters of the Pantry. Now Liz told me that when doing up the paperwork for reporting that we provided 1400 meals in the month of July to our members. And the fresh veggies are coming in so that gives us some nice treats for members who do not have a garden.  This is also our month for the USDA shipment so we should have a nice full Pantry. Again many thanks to Ken and Liz for all they do  and to all our wonderful volunteers.

Until next time,

Priscilla

Letter

Thank You

This morning, I dropped off a few herbs and veggies from my gardens for the Epsom Food Pantry. Volunteer Kenny Brown showed me around our new community Pantry. I was so impressed. It is organized, clean, well stocked (including lots of fresh fruits/meats/veggies and personal items). I hope all residents are proud of this resource and feel more secure in the fact that it is available to any resident who may, some day, be in need of good nutrition.

On behalf of all Epsonians, I want to thank all the volunteers who work at our Pantry. A special “thank you” to Priscilla Thompson whose persistent hard work made ours, a great Food Pantry.

Let’s continue the quick guide to the Republican primary with our US House race. The two main candidates are Marilinda Garcia and Gary Lambert, with Jim Lawrence also serious but not getting much traction.

Marilinda Garcia is a four-term State Representative from Salem. She co-chaired the House Republican Alliance (the conservative caucus) with me last session, and also served with me on the finance committee. She has an exemplary voting record and prime sponsored several significant bills to bring competition and transparency to healthcare costs in New Hampshire. For example, she sponsored the bill to sunset the Certificate of Need board, a bureaucratic roadblock which protects hospitals from competition. Despite her youth, she has won numerous awards and accolades, and has earned three degrees including a master’s from Harvard.

Gary Lambert is an attorney and retired marine colonel. He served one term in the state senate and did not run for reelection. During that term he only prime sponsored four bills, the most significant of which dealt with certification of dental hygenists. His voting record was spotty. He was the deciding vote to retain the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, a tax on electricity used to fund a hefty bureaucracy and energy efficiency projects for both government and commercial users.

Jim Lawrence is a former three-term State Representative who has been out of office for six years. He does consulting for the Dept. of Defense and had a good voting record. I’ve not met him.

Marilinda is the easy choice for me. Like Carol she has the sense to sponsor bills that can pass while moving in the direction of less regulation and increased competition. Gary just seems to be running on his military service record, not his legislative record.
