EYAA would like to send out a special Thanks to everyone who braved
the wet and rainy EYAA Car Wash/Bake Sale, Saturday, April 26th.
What a great turn out, the kids really had a lot of fun. It was
another successful year despite the weather. Thank you to the Epsom
Fire Department for letting us use the area. Thank you to Maxfield’s
Hardware from Pittsfield for donating supplies for the car wash.
Looking forward to next year!
Get Fit NH Coach Dean Carlson Appointed to
Smart Group Training Advisory Board
Award winning trainer recognized for successful implementation of
Smart Group Training Philosophy at Get Fit NH
Coach Dean Carlson, owner of Get Fit NH of Concord and Epsom, has
recently been named to the advisory board of Smart Group Training.
Smart Group Training is the industry leader in bringing injury
screening, prevention, and corrective exercise protocols previously
only found in one-on-one personal training into gym and health clubs
with large group training formats.
Smart Group Training and the Functional Movement Screen have been
part of the way Get Fit NH trains clients since 2012. Dean called
this a logical progression toward not only getting his clients
better, but moving the training industry forward by implementing
protocols that are respected and understood by physical therapists,
orthopedic physicians and other allied health professionals.
The trainers at Get Fit NH are constantly trying to improve on the
quality of training they can provide, and the Functional Movement
Screen allows personalization of each routine within a group setting
to maximize clients’ results. “Being named to the advisory board of
Smart Group Training means that the Get Fit NH team has been
recognized as one of the best in the country at what we do - helping
people move better, feel better and be better,” Carlson said.
The Functional Movement Screen, the foundation of the SGT approach,
was designed to identify asymmetries and poor movement patterns in
the body. Such patterns have been shown to lead to injury and less
than optimal performance. Clients may already have a good base of
strength, but if they move poorly, they may never be able to tap
into it. Training the body to move well first lays the foundation
for the best outcomes.
Under Dean Carlson’s leadership Get Fit NH has been named Best Gym
in Southern NH from 2010 to 2014, and Dean has also been recognized
as Best Fitness Trainer 3 times in that same period. He credits Get
Fit NH’s success in large part to the continuous drive to do what it
takes to get his clients better. Call 344-2651 today to get your own
Functional Movement Screen. Begin training with us soon to lose fat,
build muscle, and feel great.

Letter
To my constituents in Allenstown, Epsom, and Pittsfield,
This week, the main action in the House was on SB366, authorizing
two casinos. The committee had recommended, 11-9, that the bill be
killed, which meant that the seven different amendments proposed
could not be debated until that motion failed. Six people spoke on
each side, at length; when we finally got to the vote, it was a tie
at 172-172. The Speaker voted to break the tie and kill the bill;
however, one representative has already moved to reconsider it. That
means we get to do over that vote next week (probably with fewer and
shorter speeches) and see what happens.
I suspect that the final decision will depend on who shows up next
week, although there are a number of Representatives who claim to
want to debate the amendments but won’t vote for a casino. Dan had
submitted one of the amendments, proposing a scheme like Oregon’s
where bars and restaurants can have slot machines owned and run by
the Lottery Commission, but he and I voted in favor of killing
SB366.
Local Representatives who also voted to kill the bill include Mary
Frambach of Epsom, Bruce Hodgdon of Northwood, Frank Davis of
Pembroke, Guy Comtois of Barnstead, and Jane Cormier of Alton. Those
voting in favor of the bill include Sally Kelly of Chichester,
Dianne Schuett of Pembroke, Alan Turcotte of Allenstown, and Maureen
Mann of Deerfield.
People’s reasons for supporting or opposing casinos are highly
individual, and not at all predictable by party. I’m opposed largely
because I believe a single large casino will corrupt the state’s
politics, being a single source for a lot of the state’s income.
Interested readers can email me for my newsletter, with more details
than fit here.

Epsom Food Pantry
Well, here we are again and have had another busy week. Our first
pick up from the Manchester Food Bank is this week. And oh, what a
wonderful selection we will have. And also we have a church in
Exeter that has been very generous to our pantry on a regular basis.
Another feature which we now have is food for man’s best friends,
their dogs, and cats. An animal shelter which was overstocked heard
of our pantry and is sharing with us.
Earlier this week I had a visit from the President of the Ladies
Auxiliary of the Epsom Veterans Post 112 with a lovely donation from
them, which we are so grateful.
I also want you to know that without our volunteers this Pantry
would not be the success that it is and we all are just so happy to
be doing it.
And again, keep the donations coming, that being food or money. We
have a lot of members now and we need all the help we can get.
Until next time, Priscilla
