Letter To The Editor
The
world is controlled by philosophers long dead.
How you
vote.
The job
you hold.
What
you think is good. What you think is bad.
All
controlled by the philosophy you adhere to.
You may
not know where it came from.
Or how
you got it.
No
matter, it’s there anyways.
Philosophy is akin to having a guidepost, a compass, a checklist, in
your head.
Every
time you are confronted with making moral, political, or economic
choices, you refer to the particular philosophy you hold to help you
decide what the “right” thing to do is.
Two
people could witness the same event; one think it terrible, the
other terrific. It all depends on what philosophy they each have.
The
phrase, “You are what you eat” is not as accurate as, “You are what
you think”.
And
what you think can become reality if millions of other people are
thinking the same thing.
At the
time of the American Revolution, the dominant philosophy was that of
John Locke’s Natural Law, the idea that every individual has the
right to their Life, Liberty, and the right to own and control their
own Property.
The
result? The Declaration of Independence. A burst of human freedom.
An unprecedented increase in the standard of living.
The
dominant philosophy in America today is that of Karl Marx.
Be it
the absolute, irrational hatred of the market economy, the
characterization of profits as bad, businessmen as greedy. When
most Americans speak, it might as well be Karl Marx himself doing
the talking.
But
philosophical ideals have a way of becoming reality?
Unless
most Americans change the way they think, their philosophy, they
and/or future generations are going to wind up with the socialistic
society they so crave complete with the poverty and police state
that comes with it.

Epsom Food Pantry
As I
write this article, a group of devoted citizens are busy at the
Amory in Concord filling the wonderful boxes for delivery to all the
food pantries and elderly housing facilities in our area. We are so
lucky to have this at our fingertips and to be the recipients of the
gifts of food.
Back at
our Pantry we have had a busy week as we had our monthly USDA
delivery which the boys of the Pantry pick up. We are assembling all
our volunteers for the 22nd when we shall receive the trucks from
Concord. It will be such fun and excitement both at Meadowbrook and
at the Old Town Hall on Route 4.
In the
past weeks we have had some new volunteers, who are always needed.
That being said, welcome to Eve and Andrew.
As I
said in my last article, the first year of our Pantry is coming to a
close. It has a challenge both in the setting up of the Pantry and
getting folks to feel comfortable when they come for their food. I
really think that we have established a nice, friendly atmosphere
for our families. That all has happened with the attention of Ken,
Liz, and all the volunteers who serve them twice a month.
On
behalf of all the members of our Food Pantry, I want to personally
thank all the folks who have supported us, either through money,
gifts, or food.
Until
next time,
Priscilla
