The Epsom Bible Church will be holding a free clothing swap on
Saturday, October 5th, from 9-12 noon at 398 Black Hall Road in
Epsom.
You may bring donated clothing beginning at 8:30 am. All clothes
need to be clean, in good repair, and separated by size and gender.
No rips or stains please. Both adult and children’s clothing are
accepted.

Epsom Library News
The Epsom Public Library will be having a community “Touch A Truck”
event on Saturday, September 7th from 10 am to 1 pm. Get on board
with vehicles of all kinds. Join us for an opportunity to explore
different community vehicles including a fire truck, police car, and
construction vehicles from local businesses. Raffles tickets will be
on sale for a chance to win two Lego construction sets. Refreshments
will be provided.
Truck drivers are invited to a complimentary breakfast beginning at
9 am. Rick Belanger is helping coordinate this event. If you have a
vehicle you would like to bring please contact Rick or call Vickie
at the library for more information at 736-9920. Everyone is welcome
to this fun family event!

On Saturday, August 17, 2013, Rolling Thunder held a fund raiser in
support of Liberty House of Manchester. This organization helps out
homeless Veterans throughout NH. Rolling Thunder left Liberty House
at 9:30 am in a ride to the State Veterans’ Cemetery in Boscawen.
They left there to head to American Legion Post 112, in Epsom, NH,
where they were welcomed by the Post Commander Todd Connor.

Cynthia Damelio, 3rd Grade Teacher
Cindy is a veteran teacher who is extremely well organized. She
teaches 15 children in her third grade class and also teaches
Mathematics to 14 children during “class crossover” time. Signs in
Cindy’s classroom remind children of the times for various events:
get ready, morning work, spelling and vocabulary, reading, group,
grammar, lunch, mathematics, writing, integrated studies, and
homework/jobs.
Cindy received a BA in Elementary Education with a Concentration in
Early Childhood from Notre Dame College. Later, she was certified
with a Concentration in Special Education. Cindy has taught 1st,
2nd, and 3rd grades at ECS for 30 years. She has also coached
softball, helped in the Homework Club, and worked on AR night with
Karen Goulet.
Cindy loves to watch how her students grow. She always tells her
kids, “We learn from each other, and should help each other. We’re a
team.” Cindy enjoys the small community atmosphere of ECS. She says,
“I have great teammates. We get along well, plan together, bounce
ideas off each other, share lessons, and support and compliment each
other.” She reflects fondly on how many students she has had who are
children of former students. Cindy is proud that one former student
is a teacher because of her.
Cindy would recommend that parents sit down and talk with their kids
about their day and ask what it is they enjoyed about the day. She
says parents should believe that “Their kids will get there
eventually, so don’t worry. It’s not a race, it’s a journey.”
Cindy lives in Concord with Ava, her rescued spaniel mix. When she
recently lost an older dog for which she had cared for over 10
years, she got a sympathy card from a student with five sentences
(“Just the way Ms. Damelio likes it.”). In her spare time, Cindy
likes to read, walk, and go to the theater, movies, and Red Sox
games.
Obituaries
Joanne M. Canavan
Joanne M. Canavan, 60, died unexpectedly, Sunday, August 4, 2013 at
her home on Chestnut Pond Road.
Born in Marblehead, MA on June 15, 1953, Joanne was the daughter of
Robert and Shirley (McCarthy) Canavan. She grew up in Marblehead,
MA and was an alumna of Salem State University. She had also lived
in Goffstown before moving to Epsom 27 years ago.
She had spent several years working for NYNEX in their IT department
and then as a teacher at Concord High School, Trinity High School
and in Newmarket, specializing in computer training.
She was a member of the Dover Friends Meeting (NEYM) and enjoyed
computers, genealogy, reading and volunteer work. She also liked the
outdoors, especially the babbling brook that runs alongside her home
on Chestnut Pond, bird watching, and her beloved cats, Izzy, and the
late Frankie and Wicket.
Joanne is survived by brothers, Paul Canavan and his wife Kathleen
of Marblehead, MA and Michael Canavan of Burlington, VT; nieces,
Kelly (Canavan) McCann and her husband Joshua of Ballston Spa, NY
and Katie (Canavan) Theriault and her husband Mark of Winchester,
MA; great-nephews, Jack McCann and Andrew “Drew” Theriault;
great-niece Emily Theriault; and her good friend, Nancy Winterbottom
of Durham.
A memorial service is planned for a later date. Burial services will
be private.
