New Exhibit At Epsom Public Library

Through September 8th the landscape paintings of Concord native Eleanor Graham will fill the library with vibrant color.  Working primarily in oils, the artist captures bright scenery of places both familiar and exotic. She has also filled our display cases with what she calls “everyday art,” adding that “art shouldn’t be restricted to the walls.”

We welcome the public to join us at a special artist reception on Friday, August 25th, from 2 to 4 pm.

The exhibit is open during regular library hours: Monday-Thursday, 10 am to 7 pm, Saturday, 9 am to 1 pm.  For more information, call 736-9920 or visit our website: www.epsomlibrary.com.

“On Anti-Gun Ranting”

It’s a sad thing to once more read hysterical anti-gun ranting from a person like Nancy Heath. In her recent muddle headed letter via the Suncook Valley Sun, she relates the Colorado tragedy to our Constitution’s 2nd amendment and disparages the intent of our country’s founders to protect and preserve the rights of individuals to own firearms. That amendment was specifically put there by our founding fathers to protect us from Domestic Terrorism.

Ms. Heath specifically appears to throw blame at NH Speaker of the House Bill O’Brien, Wayne LaPierre of the NRA, and at Mitt Romney.

I’m surprised that she didn’t throw in George W. Bush’s name too! Apparently in true Liberal form, Ms. Heath holds Republicans solely responsible for the world’s ills. Those points mentioned by this woman are trite and worn out, with little basis in logic or the law. Had there been a person (or persons) in that Colorado movie theater with a legally carried handgun, the matter could have been over quickly.

I hope that common sense will prevail in all of us, and that people like Nancy Heath will not be elected to public office. There are far too many people like “that” already, who have ruined, bankrupt, and sent our country down the wrong path. If we’re to place blame, let’s place it on violent video games, violence in movies, lack of learned responsibility, and a spoiled and much indulged generation, which feels that it can act out with impunity!

Let’s all advocate for common sense and reason.

Letter

To my constituents in Allenstown, Epsom, and Pittsfield:
This week Dan and I are in Washington DC, at the Cato University. Cato is a non-partisan, libertarian think tank, and we’re getting an education in economics, history, and the US Constitution. One very interesting talk was about the details of the Affordable Care Act, aka Obamacare.  Since, like most (all?) people, we haven’t read the entire bill and the resulting regulations, a scholarly view was instructive.

The bill was intended to spread  health insurance coverage to 32 million people, half through expanding Medicaid and half through the “exchanges”. After the Supreme Court decision that the Medicaid expansion would be voluntary to the states, that won’t happen: most states looked at the costs involved and intend to say no, since the Federal government will dictate all the requirements. The exchanges are no better: the federal HHS secretary is authorized to make all the rules for them, so the states would take on an obligation without any control.

Payment for this program was planned to be half from an assortment of new and increased taxes (on medical devices, tanning beds, people who chose not to buy insurance... ) and half from cutting Medicare expenditures. Since Medicare monopolizes medical care for people over 65, and doesn’t pay full rates now, that’s a recipe for rationing aka “death panels.”

Interested people can email me for my newsletter, with more details than I can fit in a letter.

Re: candidate Nancy Heath candidate for State Rep

This letter is to share why I will not be voting for Nancy Heath for State Rep.

The last few weeks Nancy Heath has submitted letters to the editor on where she stands. What I have come up with are the two main important reasons why I will not be voting for her.

1. She is clearly an emotional voter, which means she votes based on emotion at that moment and does not set her emotions at the door and vote on/from facts.

2. From reading her letters, I find she does not believe in: Liberty, individual  rights, and Freedom.

These reasons alone are why I will not be voting for Nancy Heath as State Rep.

Letter

I grew up attending Friday Night Fish Fries with “Daddy” the Democrat. Come Election Day, I was passing out “Vote Republican” cards (for Sheriff) for my favorite Republican, Uncle Elbert.

I respect every category on the political scale as I learned it: Radical, Liberal, Moderate, Conservative, Reactionary. Every person has their own political leanings gathered mostly from their life’s experience. Most of us are conservative on some things while liberal on others.

During my letter writing campaign, I will mostly be using forms of the words “conserve/liberate” rather than Democrat/Republican. For 5 decades, I have believed “conservative” Republicans work to “conserve” policies which are working well while “liberal” Democrats work to “liberate” us from policies which are not working well for society. Everything else is silly.

Presently a Republican woman, Ann Romney, is being criticized for her part ownership in an Olympian horse “Rafalca.” I say “screw the politics!” Who can wish ill will on a horse? Whether the horse is running wild in the west, pulling a harrow on a farm, running for the roses in the Kentucky Derby or competing in “Dressage” in the Olympics: I say Best Of Luck Ann Romney And Rafalca, Bring Home The Gold! (I’m taping Rafalca which according to Google will air August 7 at 5 am)

Nancy Heath
