Letter
To my constituents in Allenstown, Epsom, and Pittsfield:
This week the House met to discuss Senate messages. We concurred
with 38 bills, non-concurred with three, and only two were debated.
HB217, including a fetus as "another" in the murder and homicide
statutes, was debated as "going too far". Considering that the
Senate had limited it to fetuses of more than 8 weeks gestation, few
agreed: we concurred, 210-108.
The other bill debated was HB137, on the state building code and
fire code. The Senate rewrote the bill, but it still meets the
intent of the House by separating the fire code from the building
code, ensuring that the fire code is reviewed by professionals (not
just firemen) and approved by the legislature, and giving the owner
the deciding vote in cases where the fire code and building code
disagree. It also added a committee to review egress requirements,
which are a major area of disagreement between the two codes, and
clarifies that "fire marshal" means the state marshal, not local
officials. That was the section debated, even though the
implementation of that section was delayed a year to allow cities
that used that title to fix it, or the next legislature to repeal
the restriction. The House concurred with the Senate by acclamation.
The filing period for state offices this year is June 6-15. If
anyone is interested in being a state representative, I’d be glad to
talk with you on what the job involves. Not everyone spends as much
time at it as I do! The official requirements are that you must be
at least 18, a registered voter, a resident of the district you will
represent, and have lived in New Hampshire for at least two years.
File with your town clerk.

to their skill level.
On succeeding days children will be enrolled in daily ½ hour
lessons, scheduled between 9:00 and 11:00. Children should come
prepared to swim. Hair pulled back from faces, plenty of sunscreen
and appropriate clothing for the weather. There is a $5.00 Red Cross
registration fee for each child. Children will learn swimming and
safety skills.
Epsom has had a successful swimming program for many years thanks to
the dedicated teachers, aides and families who know how important it
