Epsom Historical Association
What was life in Epsom like during the 1930s and 40s? Was there
industry then? What jobs did people do? How did we socialize? What
games did we play? What did we do for entertainment?
If you’ve ever wondered what life in Epsom was like during the 1930s
and 40s, Epsom’s Historical Association is sponsoring a discussion
with those who were living in Epsom during that period. If you have
memories to share, or are interested in learning more of Epsom’s
history, please consider attending the next meeting of Epsom’s
Historical Association, Sunday April 29 at 2:00 pm at the Epsom
Public Library.
For more information or to share reminiscences, contact Carole Brown
at 736-4407 or Betsy Bosiak at 736-4477. The public is welcome, so
mark your calendars and tell your friends!

Letter
To my constituents in Allenstown, Epsom, and Pittsfield:
This week most of the legislative action is in the Senate, since we
sent them almost twice as many bills as they sent us! One
interesting bill that I co-sponsored is HB1440, creating an on-line
option for driver’s education, being heard in Senate Transportation
Thursday morning.
This bill has gotten a lot of opposition from driving schools, as
you might expect, because it would give new drivers an alternative.
Of course, right now there is an alternative: just wait until you’re
over 18, and try to pass the driver’s test. Apparently there is a
fairly sizable group of teenagers who are doing just that, because
the courses are too expensive or inconvenient.
HB1440 creates a better option. Parents would have to take a
training course (on-line), the teens take the classroom part of
driver’s ed on-line, and then get 30 hours of supervised driving
with the parent, rather than 10 with a professional. Besides being
more affordable, more supervised driving is better than less, for
everyone on the roads with new drivers. And the parent’s training
will make teaching their children more effective and less stressful
for everyone.
Interested readers can email me for my newsletter, with more details
than I can fit in a letter.
