its out-going President,

The Fort Mountain Trail Winders, established in 1971, is Epsom’s local
snowmobile club and is a member of the NH Snowmobile Association. FMTW is
responsible for grooming twenty miles of local trails, providing safety
training and promoting snowmobiling as a fun, family recreational activity.
Goals for the 2009-2010 season include the development of a club
website, the undertaking of significant upgrades to the trail system, the
introduction of a membership drive and the launching of several fundraising
activities.
Trail work for next year has already begun. Volunteers are needed to
assist with expanding trails to accommodate a larger groomer, to provide
access to local business and to repair bridges.
A Trail Maintenance crew session has been scheduled for Sunday, May 3rd.
If you are interested in joining the crew or would like more information,
please call Matt at 736-9975.
Letter
To my constituents in Allenstown, Epsom, & Pittsfield:
Last week the legislature dealt
with the state budget. It was very depressing to listen to leadership
explain that they were unable to cut state spending and so had to raise
taxes. I’ve always believed that in tough times, everyone must cut back
expenditures to fit within their income. After all, everyone wants to spend
more, but the wise resist the temptation.
First, of course, we had to deal with reconsidering HB 415, the
“bathroom bill”. Despite an extended debate exposing some of the many
problems with this extension to transsexuals of the protection of
anti-discrimination statutes, hate crimes and the Human Rights Commission,
it passed because of the many representatives who had not made the vote last
session.
We debated spending cuts and increased taxes. The Democratic majority
refused not only to cut state spending, but to include in the budget
revenue-sharing for towns and school building aid, which has traditionally
been in the operating budget. All in all, they left out $133M in support to
the towns, that will have to be made up in town budget cuts and property tax
increases.
Every tax increase was voted on individually: from an increase in the
Rooms & Meals tax from 8% to 8 3/4% and a 15 cent/gallon increase in the gas
tax and increased tolls on the turnpike, to three brand new taxes. The House
approved a death tax, a capital gains income tax, and a tax on gambling
winnings. I voted against all of these taxes, but the other three
representatives from the district voted for each and every one of them,
along with the unbalanced budget and downshifting to the towns.
Anyone interested in what is going on in the State House is invited to
email or call me.
