When we have 3
inches of snow or more predicted, The Epsom/Chichester Lions will need
to move the can trailer from the Chichester Fire Station for the
winter. Please empty all of your collected cans into the trailer as
soon as possible. We will return the trailer in the spring. Thank you
for your generosity!!

Reasons to have SB2
The reasons I was instrumental in implementing SB2 in Epsom back in 1997
were:
Attendance at the Town Meetings was so small I felt it didn’t seem fair
to have such a small number of voters deciding what our tax bills would
be.
I felt there was intimidation used at many times.
I felt there were sympathy factors being used.
I feel that packing the house for votes on a pet article is very unfair.
I feel that SB2 neutralizes all of these things.
I didn’t feel the voter had enough time to really think things through,
between the discussion of an article and the vote in the Town Meeting.
We are talking only a few minutes here folks.
SB2 gives you time, time from the deliberative meeting to voting day, to
think about what you are spending your tax dollars on and how many
dollars you can afford to spend,
I do believe that SB2 is responsible for a lot of the decline in
attendance at the Deliberative Session of our Town Meeting over the last
ten years. I agree the reason for this, in many cases, is laziness and
apathy, but also many people just simply cannot make it to the meeting.
This applies to both Forms of Government. I wish that would change but I
don’t know how to change it. Looking at the numbers below I don’t think
the Traditional Town Meeting was such a popular place to be.
We can’t blame low attendance on SB2 before it was even implemented.
Total attendance before SB2 Total attendance after SB2
1990 - 152, 1991 - 168, 1992 - 152, 1993 - 164, 1994 - 131, 1995 - 146,
1996 - 124, 1997 - 167, 1998 - No Count, 1999 - 106, 2000 - 120, 2001 -
77, 2002 - 70, 2003 - 85.
These numbers
came from the Town Office.
Sincerely, Les Cash
Epsom Voter
PS. Joanne, I never said that I was satisfied with the attendance at
either type of town meetings.

I would like to inform you people of Epsom that shootings have been
happening. A Selectman’s kitchen window, a neighbor’s SUV rear window,
and a window in the Fire Chief’s farm tractor. Be alert people, there
are sick people out there.

Letter To The
Editor
Where has the year gone? I’ve almost forgotten the old fashioned winter
we had of over 100 inches of snow, the road wash-outs, the tornado and
wash-outs, as well as the damaged trees. I guess time flies when you are
busy.
Concerning the Center Hill project, I want to thank the landowners who
were gracious and generous before, during and after the project was
completed. I also want to thank all the people who were inconvenienced
and had to travel around to over Echo Valley Farm Road to reach their
destinations.
Griffin Road should be open by Christmas.
Again, I want to thank all who cleaned out their culverts and ditches so
water would stay in the ditches and not wash out or undermine the roads.
May you all have a Merry Christmas and a profitable New Year.
Bless you, your Road Agent,
Gordon Ellis
