Happy Birthday to Hannah West on September 25.
Chichester Grange will meet on Wednesday, October 1, upstairs in the
Grange Hall.
Plan ahead. Save the dates of October 17 and 18 for the Plan NH
Community Design Charrette to address the town’s center – the
historic part of Main Street. How can this area be a true center
once again? This charrette is for all of us, a chance to shape the
future of our town’s center. Call 736-7074 or 798-5709 for more

Fraud Watch Protection
Chichester Town Library
October 2nd, 2014
Marc Boyd, representing AARP, will be giving a fraud fighter
presentation on Thursday, October 2nd at 7:00 at the Chichester Town
Library. From their website, the “AARP is a nonprofit, nonpartisan
organization, with a membership of more than 37 million, that helps
people turn their goals and dreams into real possibilities,
strengthens communities and fights for the issues that matter most
to families such as healthcare, employment security and retirement
planning.”
Security breaches and the resulting fall-out, as well as other
schemes that result in identity theft, investment fraud and scams,
are robbing millions of Americans of their hard-earned money.
Every three seconds someone’s identity is stolen! This presentation
will help attendees learn more about these new challenges, the
trending types of fraud and related behavior here in New Hampshire
and will explain why AARP is launching the Fraud Watch Network to
give people the resources to spot and avoid identity theft and
fraud, so they can protect themselves and their families.
Don’t be a victim! Join us!
Chichester Town Library News
The Fraud Watch Network being launched by the AARP is the result of
their work to educate and involve the public in reducing identity
theft, phishing, scamming and other forms of fraud. There will be a
presentation on Thursday, October 2 at 7:00 p.m. at the Library
concerning this general subject. (Please see separate article for
additional information.)
The Library has purchased some new books for the enjoyment of all
ages. Included are Trauma Red: The Making of a Surgeon in War and
in America’s Cities, by Dr. Peter Ree with Gordon Dillow. This is
the life story of the trauma surgeon who helped save Congresswoman
Gabby Gifford’s life. Book Play: Creative Adventures in Handmade
Books, by Margaret Couch Cogswell to make the book itself as
interesting as the contents. Foodies will enjoy Microgreens: How to
Grow Nature’s Own Superfood by Fionna Hill, who provides guidance on
growing, harvesting and preparing twenty of the most popular
microgreens. Sweetie Pie: The Richard Simmons Private Collection
of Dazzling Desserts has the weight-watching, exercise guru looking
at desserts in a new way, addressing fat and sugar contents. More
and more people are finding out they have a sensitivity or
intolerance to gluten, which makes many desserts forbidden. The
Gluten-Free Gourmet Makes Dessert: More than 200 Wheat-Free Recipes
for Cakes, Cookies, Pies, and Other Sweets by Bette Hagman, the
leading expert in gluten-free cooking, gives us two hundred recipes
for delicious cakes, cookies, pies, and other desserts. Other books
include: Pivot Points: Five Decisions Every Successful Leader Must
Make by Julia Tang Peters; Fun with the Family in Vermont and New
Hampshire: Hundreds of Ideas for Day Trips with the Kids by Lura J.
Rogers and Barbara Radcliffe Rogers; The Hurricane Sisters by
Dorothea Benton Frank; The Headmaster’s Wife, by Thomas Christopher
Greene; and, more.
The Teen Advisory Group will be holding their first program at the
library on Sat. Oct. 4th at 10:00. The group will be tie dying tee
shirts. Teens need to provide their own shirts, but all other
materials will be provided by the library. This will be a time to
plan future activities. All teens 13 years and older are welcome.
The library is hosting a pumpkin decorating contest. The
decorated pumpkins will be judged and three winners (in under 5,
6-10, and 11 and up) will receive a coupon for a free golf game at
Chucksters. The completed pumpkins will be used to decorate the
town, (the library, the town hall, the parish house) during the
Charrette program on Oct. 17 and 18. Children may pick up their
pumpkin at the library, decorate and return it by Sat. Oct 11.
Pumpkins are first come, first serve, but you can also purchase and
decorate your own pumpkin. Please do not carve the pumpkin, as they
will be on display for a while.
The book group will have it’s second meeting on Thurs. Oct. 9th at
noon. We will discuss our first book, The Red House by Mark Haddon.
Bring a lunch to eat at the meeting, coffee and tea will be
provided. If you couldn’t come to our first group, copies of the
book are available at the library if you would like to still join.
Out Of Your Attic Thrift Shop News
Submitted By Carol Hendee
The Attic now has two book areas! With the renovations being done
in the back of the store, we ended up with a little more space for
books. The ladies worked hard setting up shelving and moving books
that had lingered in bags, as we didn’t have the space to put them
out. Now we do! With a request, please do not bring old textbooks,
moldy or wet books or magazines to the Attic. Textbooks just do not
sell and the wet books can potentially damage good ones with mold.
We will continue with $1.00 a bag for all books through
September.Fall and Halloween items continue to appear on the
shelves.
We are on Rte 28, north of the Epsom Circle, Chichester-Mon. 8-12;
Tues. & Thurs. 8-4; Wed. 11-4 & Sat. 10-4. Remember, the last
Thursday of the month is 1/2 price day!
